1891W98885New York: Cassell Publishing Company 1891. Corners bumped some darkening and soiling along edges top edge stained brown and front end-paper re-attached making it a little shy of the edge. No former owners name. Illustration opposite page 22 has 1 1/2 " clossed tear. Some finger soiling in early pages. Text pages 21 to end are Japanese double fold while most of the pages before are open. They appear to have been professionally cut rather than opened by an owner. There are no "rough" edges. Generally speaking the pictures are clean delicately coloured and of course Hood's poetry is jolly as always. First Thus. Cloth Backed Paper Covered Bds. Good/No Jacket. Journal kept by the author while a member of Franklin's first expedition to the Arctic seeking the Northwest Passage. His paintings are some of the finest and earliest records of the animals and birds of northern Canada. Hood perished on the expedition which covered 5550 miles and traversed a large portion of the arctic coastline of mainland North America.
