Light soil creasing and toning on pages and and a few tears and chips on endpapers. The front endpapers have the signature of N. H. Mitchell dated 1882 with Mitchell's stamp on the front pastedown. Newton Horace Mitchell was a geologist who accompanied Custer's Black Hills expedition in 1874 and produced a multi-volume work on Minnesota's geology. At the rear is a pocket with four kinship charts.
