The covers are scuffed and worn spine labels mostly not legible. Library stamp on the endpages reference number on spine. The King volume has the cover loosened but still attatched. Gilt-blocked titles to spines with decorative gilt tooling and raised bands. Spine bands worn with some loss to spine covers. Panel edges worn and rubbed as with age. Bumped corners. Marbled endpapers. Title pages are lightly tanned due to offsetting from the frontis. Tissue guards. Otherwise pages are bright and clean with just some scattered instances of marginal foxing around some of the tissue-guarded plates. Volumes 1-3 of this edition correspond to vol. 1 of the French original Les origines E´gypte et Chaldee and are based on the text of the 4th revised French edition of 1901 but with many notes omitted or abridged. Volumes 4-6 of this edition correspond to vol. 2 of the French original Les premieres melees des peuples; volumes 7-9 of this edition correspond to vol. 3 of the French original Les empires. In continuation and uniform with the above-mentioned 9 volumes the Grolier society issued ""History of Egypt from 330 B.C. to the present time by S. Rappoport"" 1904 in 3 volumes with spine title ""History of Egypt volume X-XII"" and also ""History of Egypt in the light of recent discovery by L.W. King . and H.R.
