This sensationalist compilation was published in the throws of the French Revolution many of the writings specifically dealing with that conflict. Dans une première partie, l'auteur se penche minutieusement sur l'orthographe, la grammaire, la syntaxe et le langage de l'astrologue. Il prend comme exemple des prophéties qu'il réanalyse et corrige les habituelles déductions qui en ont été faites. Dans le premier point de la partie consacré à la prosodie, l'auteur souligne, L'exemplaire comporte bien la signature de l'auteur : "R. de Louvicamp / 12 [cul-de-lampe] XII / XCVII" à la page 161, afin de déceler les contrefaçons éventuelle. Jean Leroux (ou Le Roux) était curé de l'église de Louvicamp, dans l'actuelle Seine-Maritime. Complet de catalogue de l'éditeur. Ex-libris manuscrit F. Gonet au titre. Caillet, II, 484 : "Ouvrage utile pour l'étude des prophéties de Nostradamus". Quelques taches, 1er plat gauchi, manques aux chasses de gouttière. Reliure en bon état, solide, avec quelques traces d'usures, notamment des mors partiellement fendus/fendillés, usures aux coins, accroc à l'extrémité des coiffes, dorures au dos à nettoyer (encrassées par un ancien mauvais cirage à chaussure ...). Intérieur frais malgré quelques feuillets légèrement brunis et quelques rousseurs. Belles marges. Edition originale et unique édition. Exemplaire avec annotation manuscrite à la page 161 : R. de Louvicamp // VI // 6 // DCLXVIII. // DCLXXVIII. Cette annotation aurait servi à identifier les exemplaires originaux des exemplaires éventuellement contrefaits. Jules Le Roux était curé de Louvicamp (petite paroisse de Normandie située à mi-chemin entre Beauvais et Dieppe, du diocèse de Rouen).

With a woodcut illustration on title-page 20 engraved emblems at the beginning of each chapter several by Pieter Balthazar Bouttats and some woodcut tailpieces. Rare first edition of a work containing 20 adapted prophecies of the French apothecary and seer Michel de Nostradamus 1503-1566. Nostradamus's predictions first published in 1555 as Les proheties are here edited by an anonymous author giving an explanation of and opinion about each prophecy. Each prophecy is preceded by an oval emblematic engraving 6 signed by the Antwerp-based engraver Pieter Balthazar Bouttats 1666-1756. Since the engravings don't relate to the text they were probably originally made to illustrate an earlier work and were reused in the present work.With bookplate. Browned with some occasional small spots or stains but otherwise in good condition. Binding worn along the extremities bottom of spine damaged.l Chomarat M. & J.-P.
