'Teriade had always found room for selections from French illuminated manuscripts in Verve's early 'miscellaneous or general issues.' With Verve No. 7 this predilection was in full flood. The Calendar from Les Tres Riches Heures du Duc de Berry inaugurated a series devoted exclusively to illuminated texts from the thirteenth fourteenth and fifteenth centuries. Verve Nos. 7 9 10 11 12 14/15 16 and 23--which spanned a nine-year period--attest to the importance Teriade attached to this art form.' Michel Antonioz VERVE: The Ultimate Review of Art and Literature 121. In an introductory essay Teriade himself relays the great difficulty in attempting to reproduce the paintings: 'There are no more exquisite paintings in the world than those contained in this manuscript and their colors are so delicate that faithful reproduction seemed mpossible by means of mechanical processes using chemical tones . The purit of the manuscript's colors as Robert Draeger discovered defied the sensitive emulsions of photographic plates. Only after patient effort could the minute drawing and transparent colors be reconstituted. The result achieved demanded extraordinary crafstmanship and may well mark a date in the history of colored reproduction. For the first time the Calendar of Les Tres Riches Heures now belongs to the public in its entegrality and in the exact dimensions of its original paintings.' Each of the calendar months depict in great detail a scene from the agricultural life of 15th century France-- 'No document exists which shows more fully and accurately the life of Medieval France: in it are expressed the elegance the refinement and the vigor of the France of the past.'. 19335864Crystal Bay MN: Frederick R. White 1933. Two typed letters 11x8.5" 2 and 4 pp. recto only. One letter on two loose leaves and the second stapled at top margin. Generally very good with toning some foxing to versos few small edge tears and transmittal folds.

Two very interesting letters from "Fredrick" Frederick White 1866-1939 to a Mrs. Erna Tayler discussing her progressed horoscope and offering financial advice.

White was an American astrologer author and editor/publisher of The Adept: The American Journal of Astrology. One of the pioneers in the field of financial astrology White along with "Professor Weston" a regular contributor to The Adept heavily influenced W. D. Gann who published his famous novel The Tunnel Thru the Air in 1927. White's 1904 work A Guide to Astrology is included in Gann's reading list.

The letters are full of specific financial readings. For instance the first letter of 1933 while advising Tayler on making investments goes on to expansively explain the reasons for the Depression were "a series of bad aspects between Saturn Uranus and Neptune." that some stocks were better to buy into than others and that Tayler's chart had favorable periods to play the lottery.

These letters represent manuscript examples from the heyday of early financial astrology from one of the field's most influential figures. .
