201117905<p>Simi Valley California: Pie in the Sky Press 2011 One of twenty-five copies. Design photography hand typesetting presswork paste papers and bindings by Rebecca Chamlee. Signed by the poet and artist. . Green morocco over green paste-paper boards. . Quarto 9 x 13 in. . Fifteen full-page color images of plants. Printed on letterpress on Rives BFK paper in Bodoni types. Images printed from multiple photo polymer plates in tight registration. Bugra endsheets. Rolled leather endbands. A fine copy in publisher's board slipcase. As new. The printer states: "My Partial Tongue by poet Martha Ronk uses phrases from an essay on gardens and plants by Sir Thomas Brown a 17th-century essayist who wrote about the order in nature. The poems have a great deal of space in them space suggestive of what is missing and of silence and reflect a feeling of distances from the natural world that seems to be disappearing… I created photographs of plants and feathers that reflect the content of the poems. The images were digitally manipulated and separated then printed in tight registration on Rives BFK."</p> Pie in the Sky Press, hardcover
1940126410Self published 1940s. Very Good. Two vintage souvenir photographs from nightclubs in New York Club Rhapsody & Chicago Sky Club each in original custom printed folders as issued. Dance clubs & restaurants among other public gatherings often employed in-house photographers to entertain clientele a brief mid-century custom foreshadowing the automated "souvenir" photos of today's amusement parks. An example in cinema perhaps unparalleled comes from Cleo Moore in "Over-Exposed" 1956 a blackmail noir about a NY "flash girl" at a restaurant who extorts everyone she meets. History's similar character: the cigarette girl. Club Rhapsody: gray folder shapely silhouette logo 317 Riverway Niagara Falls NY advertisements seen early as 1948 curious brunette in heart vignette 4.75 x 7 inches laid into stapled paper frame. Sky Club: cream folder full-panel logo 1630 N. Harlem Ave Chicago Ill. now a car rental business but the original site boasted a tasty lamb entree two couples seated men flanking women one a military man both men sport cigarette packs on the table 5 x 7 inches laid into die-cut rear panel. Names below each patron "Bernie Ev Alice Bobbie."Very Good Plus overall photos a bit wavy light foxing. Self published unknown
