A fine set of the complete series of the Belgian Surrealist review 'Le Ciel Bleu' issued during the closing months of World War II.The Belgian Surrealist periodical 'Le Ciel Bleu' was directed by Rose Capel together with Paul Colinet Christian Dotremont and Marcel Mariën. Issued weekly in newspaper format the review concentrated more on text prose poetry and theory than on the visual but did include illustration by Magritte Robert Willems Annie Desmets P. Sanders and Suzanne van Damme. The usual coterie of Surrealist contributors and precursors are present and unpublished work by Breton Scutenaire BéaluAchille Chavée André Souris Milk-Yes-La sic Picasso Jean Pfeiffer Piqueray and Armand Permantier amongst others. A young Marcel Broodthaers 21 at the time of publication contributed the poem 'L'île sonnante' to issue 7; Broodthaers is cited as 'Marcel Broodhaerts'.'In the first issue Mariën's 'Pourquoi le ciel est bleu' sets the tone for post-war Surrealism in Belgium with its insitence on optimism. 'The sky is blue because it is the symbol par excellence the concrete image the memento of the innumerable possibilities of life . / 'A new human morality founded on pleasure the happiness of all is traced across the tatters of our hypocritical conventions which are the brutal negation of daily reality . / 'At the heart of the storm of that artificial night which is unrolled today over the world the blue sky - from the other side of the mirror - is our only chance of safety.'' Very Good Turkish, Ottoman (1500-1928) Original decorative 1/4 leather bdg. Demy 8vo. (22 x 15 cm). In Ottoman script. 13, 2, 362 p., 1 plate, 17 numerous ills. [RARE OTTOMAN EDITION of COSMOGRAPHY by GILLEMIN & BRIEUX] Kozmografya yahud ilm-i ahvâl-i sema. Prep. and translated by Hasan Bedreddin. Amédée Guillemin was a French science writer and a journalist. Guillemin started his studies at Beaune college before taking his final degree in Paris. From 1850 to 1860 he taught mathematics in a private school while writing articles for the Liberal press criticizing the Second French Empire. In 1860, he moved to Chambéry where he became a junior deputy editor of the weekly political magazine La Savoie. After the annexation of Savoy by the French empire, he returned to Paris where he became the science editor of l'Avenir national (The Nation's Future). Guillemin presently started writing books of physics and astronomy which became very popular. He wrote "The Sky" which was translated into many languages. His major work, "The Physical World", consisted of five large volumes. His publisher, Hachette, encouraged him to write a series of booklets about astronomy and physics under the title "Small popular encyclopaedia", a scientifically sound but accessible collection about sciences and their applications. French astronomer Jacques Crovisier from the Observatoire de Paris suggests he may have been a source of inspiration for Jules Verne's 1865 novel, From the Earth to the Moon. Charles Auguste Briot was a French mathematician who worked on elliptic functions. The Académie des Sciences awarded him the Poncelet Prize in 1882. This is the rare translation of "Ele?ments de cosmographie" by Guillemin & Briot in the Turkish / Ottoman world. Second Edition. Özege 11206.; TBTK 11733.; Only two copies in OCLC: 949501098.

The printer states: "My Partial Tongue by poet Martha Ronk uses phrases from an essay on gardens and plants by Sir Thomas Brown a 17th-century essayist who wrote about the order in nature. The poems have a great deal of space in them space suggestive of what is missing and of silence and reflect a feeling of distances from the natural world that seems to be disappearing… I created photographs of plants and feathers that reflect the content of the poems. The images were digitally manipulated and separated then printed in tight registration on Rives BFK."</p> Pie in the Sky Press, hardcover
