It is one of the Lou Grant Show which was series of dramas about a Los Angeles newspaper its staff and city editor Lou Grant Ed Asner. In this episode a terrible heat wave leads to an outbreak of major brushfires in several residential parts of Los Angeles. Plot developments include the following: Charlie tells Lou that he and his wife Marion have decided to separate; Mrs. Pynchon calls in a fire story from a riding stable; Rossi interviews firefighters and frightened residents as entire neighborhoods are evacuated and houses are consumed in minutes; Charlie learns that fires have spread into his neighborhood and rushes home to check on Marion; Charlie works to save his house despite the warnings of the firefighters; Billie tries politely to keep her visiting father out of her hair as she covers the disaster from the city room; Animal learns he is suspected of arson by a fire department investigator; and Charlie and Marion make a decision about their relationship.
