viii, 146 pages. Text in English and French. Profusely illustrated with glossy black and white reproductions of photos. "Dutch-born Kryn Taconis has left us as his legacy a body of work that stretches over thirty-five years - from 1944 to 1979. As a member of the Resistance, he cast a special light upon the grave privation of the people of Amsterdam, who were starved by the German occupiers during the winter of 1944-1945. He was later associated with the Magnum agency for ten years during which he proved himself as an independent photographer and displayed his sympathies and his humanist affinities in numerous stories from all over the world. Finally, his twenty years of association with Canadian illustrated magazines such as the Star Weekly gave him the occasion to wield great influence in establishing new standards of quality in Canadian photojournalism." - Preface.
