This little book tells the story of Carl Rollins Hammonds. Having grown small breasts as a teenager Hammonds worked as "half-man/half-woman" as a carnival dancer under the name Hedy Jo Star. Estrogen began to change her appearance more radically and in 1955 "I changed my sex" first appeared. In 1962 she underwent full gender reassignment surgery and this paperback edition appeared the following year. The card is SIGNED in ink by Bruce Bennett "Sincere Best Wishes / Bruce Bennett / 9/15/86". Card stock. 11" x 14". This card is for Chapter 11 of 12 chapters. The serial features United States Marines battling main villian "The Lightning" in a sci-fi thriller. Star Bruce Bennett born Herman Brix;1906 - 2007 was a star athlete University of Washington 1926 Rose Bowl; Silver Medal shot put 1928 Amsterdam Olympics who was set to play Tarzan until a movie injury sidelined him in favor of Johnny Weissmulloer. He did play Tarzan in 1935 The New Adventures of Tarzan and 1938 Tarzan and the Green Goddess. He changed his name to Bruce Bennett and had a full career as a supporting actor. He is probably best known today for his role as tne intruding miner in The Treasure of the Sierra Madre 1948. He died in 1907 at age 100. He was also a popular singer with a many hit records. In his later years he starred in a number of award-winning television broadcasts. This is the poster from the Japanese release of this film circa 1960. It is in the Japanese B2 size 20 1/4" X 28 5/8" with a 2" linen border. John Wayne was nominated for a Best Actor Academy Award for this movie. Given the subject matter the Japanese release of this film was unique. A very scarce poster. A Near Fine linen-backed copy. Vintage reference photograph from the 1971 "surrealist documentary" rock film showing Frank Zappa.<br /> <br /> In 1970 Zappa completely re-formed the Mothers of Invention to include drummer Aynsley Dunber jazz keyboardist George Duke and three members of The Turtles. Zappa began to write a film for the new lineup and recorded "Chunga's Revenge" 1970 with them as a "preview." Subsequently Zappa met conductor Zubin Mehta and worked with him to produce a concert in May 1970 wherein the Los Angeles Philharmonic was augmented by the Mothers or vice versa as you like and referred to this as "the second preview." <br /> <br /> The film itself shot in a week at Pinewood Studios outside London was a tripped-out documentary about life as a musician on the road and Zappa characteristically chose an eclectic group of celebrities to join the proceedings including Theodore Bikel Ringo Starr and Keith Moon. The resulting soundtrack is a matter of debate among Zappa enthusiasts but is notable for its orchestral finale "Strictly Genteel" a touchstone for the variety of classical music experimentations Zappa would subsequently pursue. <br /> <br /> 8 x 10 inches.
