Author's first book basis for the George Hill film Min and Bill with a screenplay by Frances Marion and Marion Jackson and featuring Marie Dressler and Wallace Beery in their first foray as an unlikely romantic duo. Dressler won an Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance as Min over fellow nominees Irene Dunne Marlene Dietrich Norma Shearer and Ann Harding. The Dressler-Beery partnership proved so appealing that they were reunited three years later in both Tugboat Annie and Dinner at Eight. Lorna Moon bore a son out of wedlock to director William DeMille with the child being raised by Cecil B. DeMille. After the child was born Moon was in dire straits and her close friends Marion and Pickford helped to get the book published and successfully pushed to have the film made although Moon died soon afterward. 1858170653Landport: Annett and Robinson 1858. First edition of Moon's account of the shipwreck and aftermath of the Osprey as a steward on the ship. This work is institutionally rare outside Australasia appearing in five libraries only. The Osprey was a part of the 1844 experimental squadron to test new technology on ships and was equipped with 12 guns instead of the usual 10. She was sent to New Zealand to assist the British in the Flagstaff War but arrived after the conflict had ended and was redirected north. The ship was wrecked on 11 March 1846 after mistaking the Herekino Heads for the entrance to the Hokianga River due to poor weather conditions. "The vessel stands upright on her keel in the sand and is but slightly injured the heel of the keel only being knocked away. The stores are being landed and the crew are assisted by 150 natives who are well disposed and behave very friendly and peaceably" The Times. The crew's lieutenant Octavius Benthall alongside four men attempted to sail in a pinnace to reach Hokianga. Unfortunately they never made it and their boat was discovered nine miles from their destination. The remaining crew lived in tents on the beach for about seven weeks helped by local Mori people. "A second smaller ship the Aurora was dispatched to provide assistance and succour to the crew of the Osprey though incredibly she met the same fate as the Osprey being driven ashore by mad winds after her anchor chain snapped. The Aurora came to rest alongside the wreck of the very ship she was meant to assist. Adding insult to injury and compounding the black humour of the situation there was nobody around when the Aurora made land as the Osprey crew had already left embarking on a gruelling sodden tramp over rugged country south to the Hokianga and then on to the Bay of Islands" New Zealand Herald. The text addresses conditions affecting the eyelids lacrymal apparatus ocular muscles conjunctiva cornea iris crystalline lens and glaucoma. It also contains sections on vision testing and optical defects. Laurence and Moon were leading British specialists known for their association with what became known as Laurence-Moon syndrome. This American edition circulated their methods among medical practitioners in the United States. Condition: Good with a tight and secure hardcover binding visible cloth staining and moderate rubbing to corners and edges; pages show age toning without significant damage. Published 1675-1676 the 7th edition large 8vo 19th century half green morocco marbled boards the first part undated but the Fee Del Corrector and Summa de la Tassa are dated late October 1676; the second part printed by Sanchez is dated 1675; paginated continuously. 10 226 2 229-438 10 pp. Originally published 1592-1600 this work first thought to be authentic and accurate as a history of the Arab conquest of Spain up to AD 721 was later found to be a spurious work of the late 16th century by Miguel de Luna with not much historical accuracy. Very good some rubbing to joints and light shelfwear text is a bit tanned and almost entirely free of foxing but for the outermost leaves. This copy belonged to sociologist and anthropologist Dr. Ashley Montagu and includes laid in materials pertaining to the controversial association of the International Conferences on the Unity of the Sciences with Sun Myung Moon's Unification Church. The items present include a typed letter Signed by Dr. Montagu stating that he refused to lend Moon any legitimacy by attending the conferences and noting that he had advised the organizer Nobel laureate Prof. Eugene Wigner of the same a typed letter Signed by Nobel laureate Robert S. Mulliken and by several others -- including Amitar Etzioni who later withdrew from the conference -- advising invitees to the Fourth International Conference that there was no religious agenda in question and a typed letter Signed by Moon himself written on the letterhead of the International Cultural Foundation presenting this copy of the 1973 proceedings. Also present are Vol. XXI No. 45 of the Princeton Spectrum newspaper featuring Allen Tate Wood's article "The Dark Side of Sun Myung Moon" a New York Times clipping in which Prof. Kai Nielsen offers reasons why scholars should shun conferences sponsored by Moon and a magazine article listing some of the scientists who chose to attend the fourth annual conference as well as some of those who stayed away. Record of shooting partridge pheasant hare pigeon and the occasional woodcock; with notes of ferreting and a few seasons' salmon fishing covering sport on several Scottish estates: Charlesfield Gask Auchterader Perthshire 1889-1899; Strobhall Perthshire 1900-1902; and Bachilton Perthshire 1889-1902.<br /> <br /> The total bag was nearly 3000 including 1267 partridge 863 pheasants 232 hares and 275 rabbits. Kept in a meticulous hand identifying members of the shooting parties places and occasional remarks on weather and conditions. There is a separate record of pheasants reared and shot at Gask and Stobhall at end.<br /> <br /> A single page records salmon and grilse taken at a dozen pools on an unidentified stretch of river the Earn near Gask perhaps in seven seasons.<br /> <br /> Signed by Ernest Moon on verso of flyleaf. 19060137971906. Print. Sepia-toned silver gelatin print of a Karl Moon photograph on canvas board signed and dated by Moon. Item is in very good condition but has not been examined out of shrink wrap. Print has light wear to all edges and the top right corner is missing a small piece of the board behind the canvas. Print measures 14" by 17 1/2" and depicts a rider on horseback in a desert landscape. Karl Moon has signed the print in the lower left corner in black ink. Karl Moon was a painter photographer and illustrator who operated a photo studio in Albuquerque New Mexico until 1907 and made pictorial studies of Native Americans in the region. Compiled by photographer Patti Perret in 1984 through BlueJay Press as a photo-essay collection of 100 modern fantasy authors with each author given a 2 page spread for a personally penned essay and a photo taken by Perret. <br /> <br /> First Edition First Printing with complete number line signed by 14 of the writers. In collectible condition with seemingly no signs of wear to either the complete dust jacket save for a touch of shelf wear to the head of the DJ or the book itself. Even the cream-colored hardcover boards appear new and without any smudging or discoloration; a feat for a book this many decades old and handled by so many hands for signatures.
