Este poema era desde ya un reflejo de la vocación revolucionaria de Manuel Navarro Luna. Muchos de sus textos dieron prestigio a las páginas de la Revista Bohemia.</p><p>Navarro Luna fue director de La Defensa y de La Montaña. Además fundó una filial de la >Asociación de la Prensa y la >Biblioteca Pública José Martí.Su primer libro titulado <em>Ritmos Dolientes</em> fue publicado en el año 1919 y con el dinero recibido por esa edición compró una casa para su madre.</p><p>Durante su activa vida social y revolucionaria este poeta publicó numerosos libros todos de gran acogida popular. Entre ellos vale destacar <em>Corazón Abierto</em> en 1922 <em>Refugio</em> en 1927; <em>Surco</em> en 1928 Siluetas Aldeanas en 1929 <em>Cartas de la Ciénaga</em> en 1932; <em>Pulso y Onda</em> en 1936; <em>La Tierra Herida</em> en 1943.Este último fue vuelto a publicar en el año 1963 con la adición de varios poemas escritos entre los años 1943 y 1960 con el título de <em>Odas Mambisas</em> y <em>Odas Milicianas</em>.
