Iniziali, finalini e testatine xilografici. Prima rara edizione stampata a Foligno da Giovanni Tommasini di questo curioso scritto di Giuseppe Guevara con il quale l’autore vuole rispondere ad un’anonima pubblicazione stampata nel 1789 a Fermo che preannunciava l’imminente fine del mondo. L’autore inizia prendendo in considerazione la difficoltà di capire ed interpretare correttamente le visioni. Segue una dissertazione sulla difficoltà di dare una chiara data all’avvento dell’Anticristo secondo quanto si può sapere secondo la dottrina cattolica. Analizza poi i segni che anticiperanno il giudizio universale dimostrando come non è sicura una loro chiara disposizione temporale. Si analizza anche la profezia dell’anticristo legata al Corno, a Gerusalemme ed ad Antioco in vari capitoli come quello dal titolo “Principio ed ingrandimento d Antioco dichiarato per il Corno Piccolo fatto grande” e anche la profezia di Ezechiele. Esemplare raro, ancora in barbe ed in buone-ottime condizioni di conservazione.

In 8° (16x9 cm); due tomi in un volume: (8), 294, (2) pp. e 239, (1) pp. Legatura coeva in piena pergamena con titolo impresso in oro al dorso. Qualche traccia di polvere. All'interno esemplare in ottime condizioni di conservazione. Seconda edizione (anche se Barbier cita l'esistenza di un'edizione del 1731 ma trattatasi probabilmente di un errore bibliografico), notevolmente corretta ed aumentata (praticamente raddoppiata) rispetto all'edizione del 1739, di questo interessante e curioso studio della scrittrice e filosofa ginevrina, Marie Huber (Geneve, 4 marzo 1695 – Lyon, 13 giugno 1753) che fu anche editrice e rarissimo per quell'epoca, scrisse anche di argomenti teologici. Sostenitrice dell'universalismo e considerata anche una neoplatonica, fu accusata da diversi personaggi dell'epoca di “deismo”. Le sue lettere, qui presentate, ebbero numerosi estimatori alla sua epoca come ad esempio il celebre poeta lirico scozzese, Robert Burns o ad esempio, Rousseau che ne cita alcuni passaggi nel libro IV dell'Emile. La Huber in questa serie di sue riflessioni analizza il rapporto fra Dio e l'eternità, le età delle anime e la figura del diavolo attraverso quello che scrissero diversi pensatori attraverso i secoli. La Huber arrivò a concludere che se Dio è onnipotente e perciò anche più potente del diavolo, quest'ultimo è condannato, prima o poi, a cessare d'esistere. A good copy. Rif. 1953234New York 1953. unknown. 3.5"x5.5" set of 4 loose postcards in a series dating Feb. 16 18 19 and 20 all from 1953. Postcards are addressed to Bill Dolid and Dan Finneran presumably roommates at "Alfred" in New York unknown if this is Alfred University or College. On the last postcard the sender is implied "the devil" through a drawing; the true identity of the sender is unknown. Each postcard is progressively "warning" for the boys to change their ways - including quotes drawings and handwritten messages. Overall these are fun and cheeky flirtations between college students. Included with this set is a 5th postcard from Dolid's youth writing home from summer camp in 1942. unknown
