With 8 full-page engravings. 64 pp. Beautiful miniature almanac for the year 1819 published by Janet one of the most well-known producers of miniature books of his time. The work is a so-called "almanach chantant" a miniature almanac of less than 3 centimetres in size with 64 pages and illustrations. Typically intended for women they were usually beautifully bound and contained poetry and love songs. The present example which has curiously been bound upside down contains several illustrated love songs some of which are allegorical and a calendar. The illustrations depict men and women engaged in a variety of different activities dressed in the fashion of the time. Several issues of the almanac were published in the same year with a different number of illustrations and some with the publisher's name on the title page.The boards and spine have been somewhat rubbed. There are also poems for songs around the table and the meaning of flowers. The compact book overall ties in nicely some well-appreciated characters from Anthony Abbot the Great to Cinderella. Chapbooks were inexpensive and usually anonymous printings of these popular themes. 18756967Persia: Unpublished 1875. No Binding. Near Fine. 8x14.5cm Six Persian miniatures apparently retelling the Barburama the life story of Emperor Babur founder of the Moghul dynasty. Each of the leaves is 11x17.5cm with an inset tempera painting set within a triple red frame 8x14.5cm. Overleaf manuscript in Farsi written in black ink with red ink underlining. Condition: a couple of wormholes to margins and on the verso mounting tape running along the head of the manuscript pages. Excellent bright images. Probably dating from the mid nineteenth century Christian era. This identification must be tentative but these images appear to correspond to the following episodes in the standard version of the Babur's life the Barburama: 2 Babur being entertained in Ghazni 4 Babur and his party hunting for rhinoceros in Swati 5 Babur encounters an old woman 6 Awards ceremony at Sultan Ibrahim's court before being sent on an expedition to Sambhal - or perhaps amzah Sulan Mahdi Sulan and Mamaq Sulan pay homage to Babur. A drummer musicians and a dancing girl are all depicted. 7 Babur hunting dogs 8 Sultan Muammad Vays offers Babur a healthy horse to replace his ailing one. Near Fine 1875 Unpublished unknown

Marcotte & Co . everything made to perfect scale . sold to L.C. who refused it . Re-sold to the women's prisoners of the Insane Asylum at Philadelphia where the poor women when 'good' are allowed to play with it." Unrecorded in OCLC we assume this was printed for private distribution by a member of the Bacon or Howland family. A very fine miniature calendar of saints in original and fresh condition. The book is printed vertically with the upper and lower halves of the months divided at the gutter listing the name of the saint for each feast day.
