Date stamps agency information and paper blurbs attached to two photos. Minor wear with one showing wrinkling at top and bottom blank white margins. Overall near fine.</em></p><p>These portraits including one of Hazel Scott at the piano capture her effervescent sassy and charismatic personality which made her a top favorite for radio film and -- what one of the image's attached paper blurb indicates -- star of Café Society Uptown. She performed as the resident pianist/vocalist for five years by 1945 and earned a place at the top of show biz.</p><p>Originally from Trinidad and Tobago Scott moved to the US and was a child prodigy. The classic and jazz musician became one of America's premier pianists of her time.</p><p>One portrait announces her marriage to Congressman Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Two are agency portraits while the third shows her at the piano.</p> Ivan Scott, New Color Studio

19277664 months of the magazine International Studio bound in a 390-page book.<br />This ex-Peddie Institute library book is a snapshot out of the 1920s world of collecting comes in bluish-green boards with gold lettering on the spine. The exterior of the book has lots of staining on the front and rear covers worn areas at the top and bottom of the spine and lightly worn areas along the top and bottom edges. The interior book has s library label inside the front cover a dedication label on the first inside page library stamps on the title page and water staining on the title page and other pages and two worn areas and library stamps on the cover of the first issue of the magazine. Outside of those distractions there are no visible extraneous markings throughout the book and thus all printing illustrations and photos are in a well-preserved readable and enjoyable condition. I have attached pictures of the front covers of the four magazines bound into this volume.<br /><br />This volume will be carefully wrapped up and padded then boxed and shipped right away to you from here in New Jersey and will come to you with our honest gratitude for your interest and for your order. Accompanying the exhibition list also probably produced on a photocopier is a two-page Press Release dated November 14 1968 and issued by Eleanor Haas on behalf of the Studio Museum. titled. Both items are printed on one side and stapled in upper left corners. 28 cm. The exhibition was organized by Henri Ghent director of the Brooklyn Museum's Community. 42 works by 21 African American artists are listed as included in the exhibition. The Press Release is titled "Blacks Talk Back to the Whitney Museum and states in part: The Whitney Museum left them out. Not a single black artist is inclued in its current survey of American art of the 1930's . "Our title of course refers to Ralph Ellison's superb image for the exclusion of blacks from consciousness by the white establishment" said Mr. Ghent . "They refuse to see us.
