190853379Seattle WA: Dreamland Seventh Ave. & Union St. 1908. 8vo. 28 pp unpaginated. Numerous photo illustrations plates ads text illustrations. Pink illustrated softcovers minor sheflwear minor rubbig VG copy. First edition of this exceedingly scarce original music program for the 1908 Seattle Automobile Show held at the newly opened Dreamland Pavilion in conjunction with the stopover by the racers in the famed 1908 New York to Paris Automobile race as well as the visit of the Great White Fleet which steamed into Seattle one month later. The advertisements in this brochure include those for Winton Studebaker Locomobile Welch Cartercars Franklins Stearns Pope-Toledo and Packard. The 1908 race was held in the Winter because the organizers originally intended for the race teams to take ship from Seattle land at Valdez Alaska and then drive on the frozen Bering Sea into Siberia and finally overland to Paris. Fortunately the American team discovered a month before everyone else that this could not be done and so they returned to Seattle where the teams were shipped over to Japan and then onto Vladivostok. Although the German Protos car driven by Lt. Hans Koeppen actually arrived in Paris first the team placed second behind the American Thomas Flyer because the Germans were penalized for having shipped their car by train from Salt Lake City UT to Seattle WA.
