Foi deputado ministro da Pecu�ria Agricultura e Pesca senador e finalmente presidente da Repblica eleito por uma coligao de partidos de esquerda. A liberao do casamento entre pessoas do mesmo gnero a descriminalizao do aborto e a regulamentao da produo e comercializao da maconha por parte do Estado colocaram Mujica e o Uruguai em destaque como uma vanguarda progressista na Am�rica do Sul. Na juventude como membro do Partido Nacional visitou a Unio Sovi�tica e se decepcionou com o comunismo ao constatar que os membros da cpula do Partido Comunista viviam em condies inalcan�veis para a maioria da populao. Mujica define-se como anarquista e diz que o anarquismo e o liberalismo so primos-irmos. Enquanto foi presidente transitou com desenvoltura entre l�deres mundiais como Barack Obama e Vladimir Putin.
