198127864Paris: Centre Georges Pompidou Musée National d'Art moderne 1981. First Edition. With about 75 illustrations many in color by Dubuffet from an exhibition at the Pompidou Center. 4to publisher's original stiff wrappers decorated with a Dubuffet painting to the upper cover and lettered in black on the spine. 87 pp. A fine copy beautifully preserved. FIRST EDITION. Dubuffet's idealistic approach to aesthetics embraced so-called "low art" and eschewed traditional standards of beauty in favor of what he believed to be a more authentic and humanistic approach to image-making. He is perhaps best known for founding the art movement Art Brut. Dubuffet enjoyed a prolific art career both in France and in America and was featured in many exhibitions throughout his lifetime. Art dealer Pierre Matisse placed Dubuffet among the likes of Picasso Braque and Rouault. Centre Georges Pompidou Musée National d'Art moderne unknown
