In excellent condition. NOT ex-library: the text is unblemished and free from stamps and ugly markings! To rival the fabulous collection of incunabula formed by Albert Ehrman would be impossible today. The two-volume catalogue written largely by Anthony Hobson is tantamount to a reference book with references to the standard authorities provenance information and excellent binding descriptions when appropriate. The work is arranged by Proctor order alphabetically by town of which more than 200 are represented and then chronologically within said towns. <br/><br/>The most expensive book in the sale was knocked down to Bernard H. Breslauer who paid GBP 35000 for lot 666 the first book printed in Verona and the first edition of Valturius's "De Re Militari" 1472 with illustrations by Matteo de Pasti. <br/><br/>Albert Ehrman 1890-1969 was not only a great scholar but also a great benefactor: his gifts to the Bodleian include his umatched collection of early library sale catalogues and an exceptional collection of historic bookbindings. The Appendix to the present catalogue lists 51 books that were not included in the sale specifically gifts and sales! of incunabula to the British Library Cambridge University Library John Rylands Library and Birmingham Public Library "Cordyale or Four Last Things" printed by Caxton in 1479.
