The first edition of Strasbourg geographer Jean-Frédéric Lamp's work for students Abrégé de Géographie pour les Écoles was published in 1828. The third edition appears virtually unrevised and begins with a short introduction to geography and an explanation of key terms and concepts before covering individual countries and regions. Europe is discussed first the greater part of the text is devoted to France then Asia Africa Palestine and North and Central America; a section titled 'Australie' pp 82-4 deals with Oceania providing brief summaries of the physical geography and facts relevant to European discovery for each region.
