This is a very good hardcover copy in a very good dust jacket. The jacket is complete. just a little toned around the edges, also the inside flap is price-clipped. Very clean inside and out, just a short neat previous owner name on the dark blue front endpaper. Probably the best survey of colonial churches in the mid-Atlantic states. With black & white photographs and measured drawings on almost every page. Brief introduction by Horace Wells Sellers. 13" high X 10" wide, 291 pages. A beautiful copy in the scarce dust jacket. This book will be securely wrapped and packed in a sturdy box and shipped with tracking.

Edition originale de cet ouvrage d'une importance non négligeable lors de la querelle des "Rites chinois", qui atteint son apogée cette même année 1700 qui sera celle de sa condamnation en Sorbonne. Dans cette opposition entre le position favorable des Jésuites et l'opposition farouche des prêtres des Missions Etrangères de Paris, le père dominicain Noël Alexandre (1639-1724) est du nombre des opposants, et compare les rites chinois avec l'idolâtrie antique pour démontrer leur caractère superstitieux.
