The January 1897 to June 1897 volume was published in 1901 and contains sixty illustrations by very early state-of-the-art color photographs of birds with a guide to the study of bird life. These early photographs are actually quite striking. 225 pp. including index. The illustrations are color plates. The July 1897 to December 1897 volume was published in 1900 in a similar format 241 pp. Volume I has chipping top and bottom of spine spine faded front hinge open a few plates have moisture marks along the edge that do not affect image in good condition; volume II is a bit shaken with wear at spine tips in very good condition. Book 2 is Vol. III and IV covering January 1898 to June 1898 with 60 illustrations. Book 3 is Vol. V and VI and is title Birds and All Nature with 40 illustrations in color and covering January 1899 to May 1899. . All three books are rubbed on the spine and tips with two of the books having loss to the leather at the head of the spine cracked hinges in all books and a total of three loose plates which are tattered at the edges former owner's name on each title page. Covers and text are tanned lightly soiled and foxed due to cheap wood-pulp paper slight separation at spine edges but the binding is tight with a small mended tear at lower corner of spine a very good copy.<br /> <br /> A scarce publication with a very early appearance of “Casey at the Bat†that is unrecorded by OCLC with this expanded text and pagination 36pp. OCLC locates an earlier printing of this publication in a slightly smaller format different pagination 64pp and text does not include publication of “Casey at the Bat.†An early appearance of “Casey at the Bat†printing Ernest Thayer's original version of the poem in its entirety concluding with “. mighty Casey has struck out" not noted by various bibliographical references including Martin Gardner's The Annotated Casey at the Bat.<br /> <br /> In addition to the minstrel "Comicalities" this title prints other monologues including a 'Women's Rights/ Stump Speech' and the entire text of "Casey"; also present is a full-page advertisement for a baseball 'glove' marketed as "A Baseball Curver" with a large woodcut illustration of a baseball player wearing the glove and stating "Play Ball. possibly M.
