This is the true first Gollancz edition not the much more common Children's Book Club edition which followed very shortly after.

Showell Styles was a highly prolific author of children's adventure stories set mainly in a mountaineering context a pursuit in which he also excelled. 19661198London: Gollancz 1966. 1st UK 1st impression. Hardback. Very good/Very good. The second and fourth books from the author's "Simon and Mag' series of children's adventure stories. Set between north Wales Switzerland and Norway they reflect the author's passion for mountaineering and his desire to introduce the sport to young people. 'Ladder of Snow' is very good with text block edges a little dull a little staining to the front paste down and a small ex-library stamp to the publisher's page. The jacket is also very good if a little creased and bumped to the extremities. 'The Pass of Morning' is a fine book in a fine jacket.

Showell Styles was a highly prolific author of children's adventure stories set mainly in a mountaineering context a pursuit in which he also excelled. A good copy with general wear at the board edges and crimping at the spine tips. Price erasure to the top of the front free-endpaper appears to be the only writing in the book.
