Briggs and Richard Hough Briggs's editor at Hamish Hamilton conceived the idea of "Briggs' Books" six non-fiction titles for children about great figures of the 20th century. The UK edition was published earlier the same year. Showell Styles was a mountaineer and novelist who led several expeditions in the Himalayas and the Arctic. He wrote over 160 books for both children and adults with this book focusing on Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay's expedition to become the first people to climb Everest. Briggs 1934-2022 was an illustrator graphic novelist cartoonist and author. The winner of numerous awards including the Kate Greenaway Medal twice the Hans Christian Andersen Award the Boston Globe-Horn Book Award and the Kurt Maschler Award Briggs noted that "the whole point of illustration is that it is literary. If it is not it remains a drawing only. Something must be 'going on' in the illustration" Horne p. 124. He is chiefly remembered for Father Christmas 1973 Fungus the Bogeyman 1978 When the Wind Blows 1982 and the perennial classic The Snowman 1978. Quarto. Illustrated throughout by Raymond Briggs. Sewn at spine with red silk ribbon. A very scarce and beautifully printed Victorian catalog for women's shoes. The company specifically designed shoes for young women that were graceful shapely and easy to the foot to make it a pleasure for walking in the fall and winter. These styles include the Rambler the Cresto the Waverly the Ardsley the Carmen the Hy-Tide and the Dixie. This catalog features the latest company styles shown against the backdrop of color cover art of shoes worn by the Queen of Sheba Helen of Troy Cleopatra Pocahontas Betsy Ross and others. Founded originally in 1893 by Julian future Treasury Secretary under Roosevelt and Truman and Kokenge a Kentucky shoe manufacturer the company transferred operations to Columbus Ohio in 1932 and operated until 1975. Light soiling light bumping to corners and with light wear to the extremities.
