Laplace himself paid tribute to Ivory's work. "Ivory's scientific reputation for which he was awarded many honours during his lifetime including knighthood of the Order of the Guelphs Civil Division 1831 was founded on the ability to understand and comment the work of the French analysts rather than any great originality of his own.Ivory's work conducted with great industry over a long period helped to foster in England a new interest in the application of analysis to physical problems." 177028782Boston: Printed by D. Kneeland for Thomas Leverett in Corn-hill 1770. 32pp stitched with the half title as issued. Untrimmed and generously margined scattered light foxing half title and last page toned. Good or so.

Hovey began his ministry at Rochester Massachusetts in 1740. He remained there until 1769 when the "very peculiar situation of affairs in said parish" brought it to an abrupt end. This sermon which according to NAIP is held by only four institutions comprises his parting words to his congregation. He does not dwell on the apparently unhappy circumstances which resulted in his departure because he wishes to avoid "the least tendency to irretate sic the minds of any." He urges his erstwhile flock to "live no longer in strife contention and wrath but let all schisms and breaches be healed among you and good agreement take place."
Evans 11687.
