An unproduced screenplay about disaffected upperclass youth in New York seemingly an early collaboration between Trow a New Yorker writer and Ivory part of the James Ivory Ismail Merchant and Ruth Prawer Jhabvala trio that formed Merchant Ivory Productions. The screenplay appears to date from the Viet Nam War era and explores some of the themes of Savages 1972 the first Merchant Ivory film based on a Trow script.<br/> <br/> The script is not dated but the first Merchant Ivory film released by DIA Films was Bombay Talkie from 1970. No copy of this screenplay is recorded in the James Ivory papers at the University of Oregon.<br/> <br/> Title leaf plus 92 numbered leaves printed rectos front-side only. Wraps fair to good copy some creasing and soil library labels on front cover light ink stamping and pencil notations text clean and unmarked. 76 pp text in Sesotho. OCLC only locates later editions from the 1970s. Mohale o tsoa maroleng is the story of a young man Leballo who leaves Lesotho to work in the mines. He later leaves the compound to work in town on a forged pass book but is arrested and sent away from town whereupon he resolves to make a living by hook or crook. He joins a gang led by one Malepa who also assures him "Kajeno u tla ba motho "Now you will be somebody. They kill an Indian tailor in trying to procure him a suit for his wedding and he is arrested. On completing his prison term he takes his revenge on the forger Mafefenene by robbing him of Forty Pounds now RlOO before returning to Lesotho where he gets married repents and revives his father's farming activities.
