Broadside includes an illustrated Atlanta Cotton States Exposition envelope with stamp ca. 1895 addressed to the Narragansett Herald Narragansett Pier R. I. These promotional piece informs editors of newspapers on the progress and planned events for the Exposition to be held from September 18 to December 31 1895. <br /> <br /> The Cotton States and International Exposition was a world's fair held in Atlanta Georgia United States in 1895.1 The exposition was designed "to foster trade between southern states and South American nations as well as to show the products and facilities of the region to the rest of the nation and Europe."1 The Cotton States and International Exposition featured exhibits from six states including various innovations in agriculture and technology and exhibits about women and African Americans.1 President Grover Cleveland presided over the opening of the exposition remotely by flipping an electric switch from his house in Massachusetts on September 18 1895.1 The event is best remembered for the "Atlanta Compromise" speech given by Booker T. A very scarce original albumen stereoview of the 1898 World’s Fair which like the 1894 California Midwinter Fair was inspired by the 1893 Columbian Exposition and spread across 184 acres at the northern edge of Omaha near the Missouri River. The Grand Court known as “The New White City†consisted of majestic temporary structures and statuary largely covered in plaster along with lush gardens and a canal with fountains and gondolas in contrast to Omaha which was still a fairly small frontier city. Hull 1880-1949 was an 18-year-old Kansas photographer who subsequently moved with his mother Sarah Adeline Hull 1843-1932 to Medford Oregon where he established himself as a scenic photographer & printer for over 20 years before moving to Chico CA. A scarce and detailed guide to the many features of the Moorish Palace at the 1893 Chicago World's Fair. These included a palm garden "enhanced by groups of Arabs" a replica of the Alhambra a harem a labyrinth a cave a "monster kaleidoscope" and an extensive wax museum. The guide describes 60 figures and scenes appearing in the museum among them the Lincoln assasintation the fountain of youth Christ and the Samartian Martin Luther Sleeping Beauty Shakespeare Mozart Queen Victoria Pope Leo XIII Napoleon and George Washington.
