In addition there are views of the Japan Exhibit the Formosa Tea House sponsored by the Japanese Imperial government to justify controlling present-day Taiwan the Japanese Village the Pay Streak attractions which included a roller-coaster like scenic railway the Temple of Palmistry the Oriental Village the Igorrote Village wherein Philippine natives were on display as well as the decidedly racist “Dixieland†attraction putting a shiny gloss on the antebellum South and “festivities and pastimes of the negro in the Sunny South.†No copies in Worldcat. 16215. Paris, 1900, Format de la carte 18,5x13,5cm, cliché un peu pâli. Photographie originale du Vieux Paris, construit sur les bords de Seine pour l'Exposition universelle de 1900. Cette attraction construite sous la direction d'Albert Robida et du promotter Arthur Heulhard, sur plus de 6000m2, se trouvait rive droite, entre le Trocadéro et les Champs Elysées, à l'emplacement actuel du Palais de Tokyo. Cette attraction était en partie construite (pour environ un tiers de sa superficie) sur plus de 1000 pilotis plantés dans la Seine. On y trouvait la reconstitution de monuments emblématique du Paris du moyen-age tels que : La tour du Louvre, la tour du Chatelet, les halls de Paris, le cabaret de la pomme-de-pin, la chapelle Saint-Julien des Menestriers. La déambulation permettait d'y voir les maison de Molière, de l'imprimeur Robert Estienne ou de l'alchimiste Nicolas Flamel.

Vintage flyer advertising San Francisco-based Art Lick Gallery circa 1990.<br /> <br /> The Art Lick Gallery was opened by artists David Seibold and Luiz da Rosa in 1989 and was at that time the only art gallery located in the Castro District. Founded just as the catastrophic impact of the AIDS crisis was beginning to be fully appreciated in the national media and during an unprecedented attempt at censoring art particularly queer art the gallery served as a safe haven for the LGBTQ art community as well as a bulwark against attacks to the community. In Seibold's own words the gallery was "an alternative to 'downtown' gallery spaces places that sometimes present art work as being so precious and intimidating that it's really unapproachable."<br /> <br /> Notable among the exhibitions held at Art Lick were Christopher Enzi's "Inferno & Other Scenes" Jerome Caja's "Compact" and the group exhibition "Eros." The shows held at the gallery which included both group and one- and two-person shows proved essential not only to the Castro community but also to the queer community at large during a period often described by many without hyperbole as a time at war.
