Fine. 2000-2017. 124 Volumes 100 titles five multi-volume deluxe sets and duplicates of several titles several labeled AP for Artist's Proof. A complete run of the celebrated series which features 100 uniformly sized books of various colors giving each artist a 16-page canvas to exhibit a cohesive body of work. Each volume is limited to 500 copies and each contains one photographic print tipped in and signed by the artist--hence the name of the series. Conceived in 1998 as a way to make original art more affordable titles were originally released in groups of four generally twice a year beginning in 2000 and ending in 2017 with most copies reserved in advance for subscribers. Complete sets of the 100 titles are uncommon as many volumes are out of print; even more uncommon are those with the deluxe box sets as few were issued toward the beginning of the series. All volumes are Fine to Near Fine. Several volumes with light spine sunning or a slight shelf lean. It is a document of an impressive and provocative public art project featuring some of the most well-known artists of this activist art movement centering on housing economics healthcare gay and lesbian and other civil rights.and of the American art world of the time. Many of the artists have become well-known in recent years with their works represented in collections at the Museum of Modern Art the Metropolitan Museum of Art the Whitney Museum of American Art the Museum of the City of New York El Museo del Barrio the Brooklyn Museum etc. Several artist included have emerged as major figures in the Graffiti Art Movement. Several are now faculty at prestigious colleges. <br />Each of the posters was printed in an edition of approximately 300 half formed the core of this book series the rest were posted in the neighborhood. These posters catalyzed and sometimes escalated the intensity of the dialog around the ongoing issues of gentrification conservation urban development and social justice that is the bedrock of the Lower East Side experience. First edition of the third volume in the series. Copy #846 of two thousand numbered copies. In the creation of this lavish program for the 15 May Ball held at the Hotel Astor sponsors selected an artist or artists from the membership to create full- page original designs associated with their product or service. "Each page was designed by the artist directly on the litho plate thus making this a collection of original lithographs" - prefatory note. Byron Browne Adolf Dehn Sol Wilson and Ruth Reeves created the color works for the covers and Milton Avery T.L. Feinenger Antonio Frasconi Chaim Gross John Groth Jacob Lawrence Ben Shahn Raphael Soyer and Max Weber were among the contributors to the internal plates a few in colors but the majority monochrome. A few artists contributed more than once and while the majority are signed in the plate a few are not. Both books consist of card-stock sheets with various elements attached to the stiff pages including cut paper from newspapers and magazines as well as objects such as a pair of glasses a metal spoon the top of a tin a penny etc. Both books are titled and annotated in stamped purple ink. Most of the stamped annotations refer to a cryptic numbering system others provide prices or occasional commentary "Wow" "Sharp Oh" "New Item". A pair of attractive if mysterious artist books. Cardboard portfolio with ties and tipped-on facsimile of woman's head. 50 leaves inside contents 46 of 47 called for images 1 duplicate image one uncalled-for image and reproduction of written text by Pennell. "This unique collection of drawings was contributed to the "American Artist's War Emergency Fund" by forty-seven American artists to be disposed of for the benefit of this fund." Second leaf is a lithograph of a handwritten brief essay on lithography by Joseph Pennell. 37th drawing in the portfolio is also by Pennell. This copy has two copies of a contribution by Henry Walker and lacks the contribution listed for Ben Foster. There is however an unlisted contribution by G.H. Profusely illustrated with more than 70 black-and-white plates featuring paintings and sculptures. Artists included: Willi Baumeister Max Beckmann Arno Breker Max Ernst Lyonel Feininger George Grosz Erich Heckel Wassily Kandinsky Ernst Ludwig Kirchner Paul Klee Gerhard Marcks Otto Mueller E.W. Nay Emil Orlik Max Pechstein Christian Rohlfs Oskar Schlemmer Karl Schmidt-Rotluff Max Slevogt and many others.<br /><br />After the Nazis came to power in 1933 many of these artists were designated "degenerate" and some had to flee Germany. The catalogue features 15 pages of advertisements many of them from art galleries that were expropriated and "Araynized" by the Nazis just a few years later. <br /><br />OCLC shows more than 20 institutional holdings of this catalogue but it's very scarce in commerce. 1966008514California: QRS Corporation 1966. A collection of 5 architectural drawings all bearing logo of "QRS Corporation" four measuring 14 1/2" x 20" and the fifth 16" x 20". Pen and ink with watercolor and marker on textured drawing boards with taped edges. Three have drawings for different concepts for Carnation Ice Cream Fountain - Lunch each signed Tennant in pencil . The fourth Grist Mill Health Foods is signed PET in pencil bottom right. The fifth 16 x 20 is for First California Federal pencil signed R. Carlson '66. All are Fine. Given that the Carnation Ice Cream Cafe located in Yesterland Disneyland is housed in a Victorian era building and First California Federal was not incorporated as the first federal credit union in California until 1980 these are most likely student works completed for an architectural drawing class in the mid 1960s. Barr on the front wrappers. <br/><br/>Doc Savage was featured by DC Comics beginning with a four-issue mini-series in 1987 followed by twenty-four issues including an annual issue. Other characters throughout the run included Doc's love interest Monya his grandson "Chip" and a crossover series with The Shadow another pulp-era crime-fighting hero. April 1 1979. <br/><br/>In the 1970s and 1980s Carnegie Hall-as well as forward-looking radio stations such as WKCR and WNYC-hosted a number of important performances by Steve Reich some of which were formal debuts e.g. "Music for 18 Musicians" in October 1978 and others that were creative combinations of important avant-garde artists Sun Ra John Ashbery David van Tieghem. This particular performance brought together a stellar grouping that included classical composers Philip Glass art rockers John Cale and avant-garde jazz Leroy Jenkins. C. 19.1.44" First edition rebound in a custom leather binding with gilt double-rule borders joined at the outer corners by a cluster of gilt stars raised bands top edge gilt; given the inscription we surmise the binding was commissioned by Pepler. Includes 10 wood engravings two by Priscilla Johnston and the remainder by Ronald Seal. Priscilla Johnston was the daughter of typographer and calligrapher Edward Johnston who lived in Ditchling from 1912 until his death in 1944 and whose earlier teachings influenced Eric Gill among many others; Priscilla was five years old when she wrote this book. This poster originates from the estate of progressive folk-rock group McKendree Spring violinist Michael Dreyfuss who played in the festival. <br/><br/>An attractive poster featuring troubadours being towed by a camel under a moonlit sky the festival featured acts such as Kris Kristofferson New Riders of the Purple Sage Linda Ronstadt Earl Scruggs Review McKendree Spring John Prine and more. <br/><br/>Dreyfuss pioneered the use of violins distorted by electronic and analog synthesizers counting synthesizer inventor Robert Moog amongst his close friends and McKendree Spring largely became known for the experimental sound that he helped craft. McKendree Spring's most noted work includes "God Bless the Conspiracy" "Spring Suite" and their covers of James Taylor's "Fire and Rain" and Neil Young's "Down By the River." <br/><br/>15.5 x 20 inches rolled. Photographic image. <br/><br/>"This propaganda poster was issued by artists and writers united in protest against U.S. government policies under President Richard M. Nixon who was elected in 1968. In 1972 Nixon ran for re-election defeating the Democrat George McGovern. The Nixon campaign slogan was "Four More Years." This poster subverts the slogan asking instead whether Americans really wanted four more years of Nixon presidency. Printed over Ron L. Haeberle's well-known and disturbing image of the My Lai massacre in Vietnam the message creates a stark association between controversial American foreign policy and savage brutality. The image supplies its own answer to the leading question implying that four more years under Nixon's administration could lead to further violence and subjugation.
