1966008514California: QRS Corporation 1966. A collection of 5 architectural drawings all bearing logo of "QRS Corporation" four measuring 14 1/2" x 20" and the fifth 16" x 20". Pen and ink with watercolor and marker on textured drawing boards with taped edges. Three have drawings for different concepts for Carnation Ice Cream Fountain - Lunch each signed Tennant in pencil . The fourth Grist Mill Health Foods is signed PET in pencil bottom right. The fifth 16 x 20 is for First California Federal pencil signed R. Carlson '66. All are Fine. Given that the Carnation Ice Cream Cafe located in Yesterland Disneyland is housed in a Victorian era building and First California Federal was not incorporated as the first federal credit union in California until 1980 these are most likely student works completed for an architectural drawing class in the mid 1960s. Illustrated woodcut titles and engraved dedication page to the Prince of Wales in each volume. 4 iv 2 231; 6 vi 239; 4 iv 280 6 pages. Large 4tos bound in contemporary 3/4 red calf over marbled boards with gilt spines; marbled endpapers; all edges yellow. London: R. Ackermann 1808-1810. <BR><BR>First edition likely bound from the original parts without the half titles as was often the case; the papers are watermarked 1806 & 1807 and containing 11 of Abbey's 12 key plates are in the first "luminescent" state and 12 of the 13 errata points still un-corrected. Offsetting from plates as usual and dedication pages are foxed but otherwise an exceptionally clean and bright copy with very infrequent spotting in margins on a handful of pages.<br/><br/> Rowlandson's first and most famous color-plate book increasingly difficult to obtain in early state as so many copies were broken up to sell the images individually. Ackermann is credited with establishing art lithography in England and this is one of his most interesting and valuable works. "The Microcosm of London is one of the great colour-plate books and a carefully selected copy should form the cornerstone of any collection of books on this subject. The plates present an unrivaled picture of London in the early 19th century of historic value as many of the buildings no longer exist." --Tooley 7. Cardboard portfolio with ties and tipped-on facsimile of woman's head. 50 leaves inside contents 46 of 47 called for images 1 duplicate image one uncalled-for image and reproduction of written text by Pennell. "This unique collection of drawings was contributed to the "American Artist's War Emergency Fund" by forty-seven American artists to be disposed of for the benefit of this fund." Second leaf is a lithograph of a handwritten brief essay on lithography by Joseph Pennell. 37th drawing in the portfolio is also by Pennell. This copy has two copies of a contribution by Henry Walker and lacks the contribution listed for Ben Foster. There is however an unlisted contribution by G.H. In the creation of this lavish program for the 15 May Ball held at the Hotel Astor sponsors selected an artist or artists from the membership to create full- page original designs associated with their product or service. "Each page was designed by the artist directly on the litho plate thus making this a collection of original lithographs" - prefatory note. Byron Browne Adolf Dehn Sol Wilson and Ruth Reeves created the color works for the covers and Milton Avery T.L. Feinenger Antonio Frasconi Chaim Gross John Groth Jacob Lawrence Ben Shahn Raphael Soyer and Max Weber were among the contributors to the internal plates a few in colors but the majority monochrome. A few artists contributed more than once and while the majority are signed in the plate a few are not. Some minor creasing else near fine. No stated limitation but of necessity produced in a small number of copies. The identification with Haystack is based solely on acquisition context. Created as a collaborative effort of an unnamed 1998 books arts class on several themes including "Desire" as spelled out in text image and sign language. More than half of the panels are signed on the versos by their respective artists. Some names that are identifiable are Ann Zanick Mi Young Lee R.
