Nr. 52 von 1000 Exempl.Text engl.- For sixteen days—June 18 through July 3 2016—Italy's Lake Iseo was reimagined. 100000 square meters 1 million square feet of shimmering yellow fabric carried by a modular floating dock system of 220000 high-density polyethylene cubes undulated with the movement of the waves as The Floating Piers rose just above the surface of the water.Visitors were able to experience the work of art by walking on it from Sulzano to Monte Isola and to the island of San Paolo which was framed by The Floating Piers. The mountains surrounding the lake offered a bird's-eye view of The Floating Piers exposing unnoticed angles and altering perspectives. Lake Iseo is located 100 kilometers 62 miles east of Milan and 200 kilometers 124 miles west of Venice."Like all our projects The Floating Piers was absolutely free and open to the public" said Christo. "There were no tickets no openings no reservations and no owners. The Floating Piers were an extension of the street and belonged to everyone."A 3-kilometer-1.9-mile-long walkway was created as The Floating Piers extended across the water of Lake Iseo. The piers were 16 meters 52.5 feet wide and approximately 35 centimeters 13.8 inches high with sloping sides. The fabric continued along 2.5 kilometers 1.6 miles of pedestrian streets in Sulzano and Peschiera Maraglio."Those who experienced The Floating Piers felt like they were walking on water—or perhaps the back of a whale" said Christo. "The light and water transformed the bright yellow fabric to shades of red and gold throughout the sixteen days." 010 Köln, Taschen, 2017 unknown

1968138495New York: Museum of Modern Art MOMA 1968. Vintage poster for an exhibition of work associated with an unrealized Christo project intended to wrap the New York Museum of Modern Art. INSCRIBED by the artist on the poster in orange crayon: "For Betsy Jones / Christo 1968."

In early 1968 Christo and Jeanne-Claude proposed to wrap the Museum of Modern Art in New York City and the adjoining sculpture garden to be accompanied by various works inside and outside the museum created by the artists as well. Though it would have been the first of the couple's wrapped public buildings MoMa's insurance company warned that coverage would cease immediately were the artists to begin wrapping the building and thus the project was shelved. MoMA countered by offering the artists this exhibition: a showcase of the preparatory scale models photomontages and drawings created for the project.

Though Christo and Jeanne-Claude worked collaboratively from 1958 onwards only Christo was given artist credit until 1994 at which point he retroactively attributed the works to her as well.

22.5 x 32.5 inches folded on brown butcher paper as issued. Very Good plus with a couple of tiny chips to the top edge two tape repairs to the verso and a single pinhole tear. Museum of Modern Art [MOMA] unknown

Albright.†Barils Barrels by Christo and Jeanne-Claude is a visual and conceptual exploration of the artists' iconic environmental works focusing specifically on their use of barrels in large-scale installations. The book showcases the couple's innovative approach to public art where everyday objects are transformed into monumental thought-provoking forms that engage with their surroundings. Christo and Jeanne-Claude are renowned for wrapping objects and landscapes in fabric and in this work their use of barrels serves as both a commentary on industrialization and a symbol of containment and transformation. The book not only documents the artistic process behind these installations but also reflects on the broader implications of their environmental art in terms of space perception and the interaction between art and public life. Through striking visuals and critical insight Barils Barrels emphasizes the artists’ ability to challenge conventional understandings of art encouraging viewers to rethink the relationship between art nature and society. Oblong quarto bound in publisher's silver cloth lettered in blue on spine. Fine. Housed in the original slipcase printed paper and silver cloth with spot of soiling to upper edge.

The story of Christo and Jeanne-Claude's 24-year quest to wrap Germany's historic parliament building in woven silvery cloth held with blue rope. The two artists were known for their monumental fabric installations of which this was the most iconic. The installation subverted the imposing dignity of the famous building a Neo-Renaissance behemoth left in ruins by the Battle for Berlin in 1945. The building was stripped and restored by the West German government during the 1960s then further repaired and crowned with a new glass dome in time for the new millennium. Before the new construction began Christo and Jeanne-Claude finally gained permission to wrap the building after decades of lobbying. The effort was seen as a symbol of reunification drawing millions of Germans to physically interact with what would once more be the seat of their government for the first time since 1933. 196332160Düsseldorf/London 1963. A sharp print with only minor edge-wear; Wilp's studio stamp to verso along with bold manuscript title in black ink. Vintage gelatin silver print 8.5 x 11.5 inches with matte finish. German Pop-adjacent artist Charles Wilp generated some of the most avant-garde European advertising from the 1960s cf. Afri-Cola spots on Youtube while also producing artist's vinyl with the likes of Yves Klein. In 1963 he filmed Christo twice—in both Düsseldorf and London—as the latter continued with his Wrapped Women series which had some of its earliest iterations in Klein's Paris apartment. Rather than wrapping cars or oil barrels or architecture Christo here wrapped the nude female body; a practice that soon lead to some of his most stunning jewelry and fashion designs. The present photograph—rather abstract of the model's torso—most likely issues from the Düsseldorf performance of this work. Düsseldorf/London unknown

199618001Berlin: Benedikt Taschen Verlag GmbH 1996. FIRST EDITION. Over 1300 full- and partial-page color photographic illustrations plus sketches maps plans blueprints and charts. At the back of the book is a sample of the actual fabric used to wrap the Reichstag. Original publisher's silver cloth author and title on spine; preserved in the original publisher’s slipcase as well as the original shipping box. Number 4317 of 5000 copies signed by Christo Jeanne-Claude and Wolfgang Volz the photographer. This book is a special presentation copy signed to Norm Applebaum and dated April 14 1997. First edition of this complete chronology of the wrapping of the Reichstag in Berlin. The environmental project first conceived of in 1971 was completed in June 1995. The Reichstag was the original home of the Imperial Diet of the German empire opened in 1894. After three rejections Christo and Jeanne-Claude were finally granted permits to wrap the building in 100000 square meters of silver fabric in 1994 and completed the draping of the building the following year. The project suffered numerous setbacks including inclement weather and huge cost increases. The project was finally completed on June 24 and remained open for 14 days.

Christo described the Reichstag wrapping as autobiographical based on his Bulgarian upbringing. The wrapping became symbolic of unified Germany; the formal unification ceremony was held there in October 1990. The project truly marked Berlin's return as a world city. The process of the entire project documented with Volz’ pragmatic and insightful photographs is detailed throughout this wonderful book.

Christo who passed away in May of this year at 84 was a Bulgarian-born conceptual artist who turned to epic-scale environmental works around the world. He is best known for wrapping everything from buildings to bridges islands and gates around the world in various types of fabric. Along with his wife Jeanne-Claude who passed away in 2009 they worked with hundreds of people on each project and paid for everything out of their own pocket mostly from the sale of artwork related to a specific project.

Norm Applebaum who passed away in March of this year 2020 was a celebrated architect winner of the Robert Mosher Lifetime Achievement Award in 2018. He is best known for his modernist designs of single-family homes the “quintessential California home.â€. Benedikt Taschen Verlag GmbH unknown
