Signed and dated by Christo Jeanne-Claude and Volz on tipped-in page. Shelved in Case 13. Christo and Jeanne-Claude were a collaborative pair of artists as well as married couple. The pair are known for large-scale environmental installations. The installations were site-specific meaning the work was designed for the location or landscape; the installations meaning is derived from the relationship between installation and location. First developed in 1976 The Gates debuted in February of 2005 due to the project being rejected by New York City government. The "gates" hold structural similarities to Japanese torii gates upon entering Shinto shrines. The installation consisted of 7503 16-foot-high vinyl gates with orange nylon fabric panels stretching 23 miles of Central Parks walkways. The piece was assembled by thousands of paid workers and remained up for 16 days before removal all materials were then recycled. 1410893. Shelved Dupont Bookstore. Taschen hardcover

104218Köln Taschen 2017. Quer-4° 844 S. zahlr. farb. Abb. OLwd. in Kart.-Schmuckschuber in Kart-Transportkoffer. Verlagsfrisch. Von Christo und Volz a. Schmutztitel signiert. Nr. 52 von 1000 Exempl.Text engl.- For sixteen days—June 18 through July 3 2016—Italy's Lake Iseo was reimagined. 100000 square meters 1 million square feet of shimmering yellow fabric carried by a modular floating dock system of 220000 high-density polyethylene cubes undulated with the movement of the waves as The Floating Piers rose just above the surface of the water.Visitors were able to experience the work of art by walking on it from Sulzano to Monte Isola and to the island of San Paolo which was framed by The Floating Piers. The mountains surrounding the lake offered a bird's-eye view of The Floating Piers exposing unnoticed angles and altering perspectives. Lake Iseo is located 100 kilometers 62 miles east of Milan and 200 kilometers 124 miles west of Venice."Like all our projects The Floating Piers was absolutely free and open to the public" said Christo. "There were no tickets no openings no reservations and no owners. The Floating Piers were an extension of the street and belonged to everyone."A 3-kilometer-1.9-mile-long walkway was created as The Floating Piers extended across the water of Lake Iseo. The piers were 16 meters 52.5 feet wide and approximately 35 centimeters 13.8 inches high with sloping sides. The fabric continued along 2.5 kilometers 1.6 miles of pedestrian streets in Sulzano and Peschiera Maraglio."Those who experienced The Floating Piers felt like they were walking on water—or perhaps the back of a whale" said Christo. "The light and water transformed the bright yellow fabric to shades of red and gold throughout the sixteen days." 010 Köln, Taschen, 2017 unknown
