1968138495New York: Museum of Modern Art 1968. Vintage poster for an exhibition of work associated with an unrealized Christo project intended to wrap the New York Museum of Modern Art. INSCRIBED by the artist on the poster in orange crayon: "For Betsy Jones / Christo 1968."<br/><br/>In early 1968 Christo and Jeanne-Claude proposed to wrap the Museum of Modern Art in New York City and the adjoining sculpture garden to be accompanied by various works inside and outside the museum created by the artists as well. Though it would have been the first of the couple's wrapped public buildings MoMa's insurance company warned that coverage would cease immediately were the artists to begin wrapping the building and thus the project was shelved. MoMA countered by offering the artists this exhibition: a showcase of the preparatory scale models photomontages and drawings created for the project. <br/><br/>Though Christo and Jeanne-Claude worked collaboratively from 1958 onwards only Christo was given artist credit until 1994 at which point he retroactively attributed the works to her as well. <br/><br/>22.5 x 32.5 inches folded on brown butcher paper as issued. Very Good plus with a couple of tiny chips to the top edge two tape repairs to the verso and a single pinhole tear. Museum of Modern Art unknown books
196829703New York: MoMA 1968. A fine copy. Uncommon with only 3 OCLC records located. First Edition. Square octavo. Pamphlet with brown cardstock portfolio illustrated after Christo's 1967 photomontage The Museum of Modern Art Packed View from 53rd Street contextualized by verso text from Curator William S. Rubin: "As an artist functioning more in the realm of 'events' than in that of painting and sculpture it is not surprising that Christo should have dreamed that it was time to wrap the Museum. The Museum staff found this a potentially lively and poetically strange project. But the more practical heads of the fire department police department and insurance agencies prevailed." Leporello contents feature 10 black-and-white reproductions of Christo's MoMA proposals which were exhibited in the Main Hall June 5 - 25 as well as documentation from some of his previous wrapped and packed works. New York: MoMA unknown
