In 4, pp. 7 + (1b). Br. rifatta con carta d'epoca. Difesa del commerciante di oro e gemme Francesco Fasano contro le accuse a lui mosse dall'abate Giambattista Mojana. Quest'ultimo aveva comperato dei preziosi da Fasano pagandoli non in denaro ma dando in cambio altre gemme e gioielli (brillanti, smeraldi, porcellane). Siccome la la merce data da questi in cambio superava il valore di quella da lui comprata, era divenuto creditore di una certa cifra da Fasano. Fasano firmo' una lettera di cambio' da pagarsi in seguito. Solo dopo si accorse che la lettera da lui firmata non era dell'importo corretto di 2.300 ducati ma di un importo superiore ovvero 3.200 ducati...'stretto il Mojana nella gia' macchinata determinazione di carpire al fasano per una via cosi' indiretta ed alla buona fede contraria novecento Ducati di piu'... con istudiati pretesti lo indusse a crdersi che tale lettera l'aveva esso Mojana di gia' trasmessa ai propri corrispondenti... e che al ritorno della medesima sarebbesi tale errore accomodato...'. Fasano decise allora il ricorso al tribunale.

By means of technical examination of the gold objects now part of the renowned and outstanding Egyptian collection of the National Museum of Antiquities in Leiden, this book gives a unique and innovatory insight in the work of the ancient Egyptian goldsmith. In 1922 the world came face to face with a young pharaoh: in that year the tomb of Tutankhamun was discovered and his breathtaking gold mask became known to everybody. Ancient Egyptian gold is known to all of us. But what was the significance of gold in Ancient Egyptian society? Where was it found and how was it won? And where did the Ancient Egyptian goldsmith work and what techniques did he master? The first part of this book answers the questions mentioned above. The second part is a catalogue of gold objects which are part of the renowned and outstanding collection of the Egyptian Department of the National Museum of Antiquities in Leiden. By means of a technical examination of these objects, this book gives a unique and innovatory insight in the work of the ancient Egyptian goldsmith, who was able to accomplish true work of art though working in hot and basic circumstances. ? Marielle Bulsink (1968) studied archaeology and Egyptology at Leiden University. In 1992 she finished her studies, writing a thesis on the technical research of the gold objects in the collection of the Egyptian Department of the National Museum of Antiquities in Leiden. In the following years this study was prepared for publishing. During this process she was guest researcher at the museum and took a course in metalworking under the guidance of a goldsmith to experience firsthand the ins and outs of the trade. Currently she is doing voluntary work at the National Museum of Antiquities in Leiden. Amsterdam is altijd de belangrijkste goud- en zilverstad van Nederland geweest, en was in de 17de eeuw zelfs toonaangevend in Europa. Dit boek volgt de ontwikkeling van het Amsterdamse edelmetaal vanaf de 16de eeuw aan de hand van de verzameling van het Rijksmuseum, de belangrijkste op dit gebied. Naast zilveren pronkstukken en serviesgoed komen gouden preciosa aan bod, evenals bestekken. Elk voorwerp wordt uitvoerig beschreven en van afbeeldingen voorzien. Ditzelfde geldt voor alle merken. Nieuwe gegevens en inzichten worden gepresenteerd betreffende zaken als rekeningen of andere documenten die met de opdracht te maken hebben. Historische achtergronden worden belicht, evenals functie en terminologie van het voorwerp, stilistische en technische kwesties en toeschrijvingen. Voorwerpen met valse Amsterdamse merken worden ontmaskerd. In een inleidend artikel zal de productie en de organisatie van het ambachtpronkstukken en serviesgoed komen gouden preciosa centraal staan.
