1825Flo138Rare complete set of 70 hand-coloured lithographic portraits of French actors and actresses on the Paris stage circa 1825. <br /><br />Also known as <i>Collection de portraits des artistes des theatres de Paris.</i><br /><br />Fine hand-coloured portraits of actors opera singers and ballet dancers in costume of their famous roles by Alexandre-Marie Colin and Louis Marin-Lavigne lithographed by F. Noel.<br /><br />Artistes include actors Jean-Baptiste Firmin Joseph-Isidore Samson Jenny Vertpre and Mlle. Pauline opera singers Louis Fereol Louise Therese Lemonnier Felicite Pradher Adolphe Nourrit Caroline Branchu and Mlle. Grassari ballet dancers Marie Cheza Louise Pierson and Zelie Molard mime artist Charles-Francois Mazurier.<br /><br />Condition: Original marble boards rebound into a portfolio with buckram spine all 70 plates loose inside. Plates fine and vibrant with excellent handcolouring a few with repairs. <br /><br />Alexandre-Marie Colin 1798-1875 was a French painter of historical and genre subjects. 18195367Mexico: Alejandro Valdes 1819/20. First editions. Small quarto pp. x 201 9: x 55. Medina 11897 & Palau 111216 Guridi was an important Mexican ecclesiastic and one of the two deputies sent by Mexico to the Cadiz Cortes of 1810. Both of these books printed separately but bound here together are replies to the "attack" made on the credibility of the apparition of the Virgin Mary to Juan Diego in 1531by the Spanish historian Munoz in 1817. Mexicans everywhere felt aggrieved by this effort by a Spaniard to demean their beloved national cult. Guridi leapt to the defense reprinting Munoz' pamphlet in toto and then refuting it point by point. Gomez Medina 11486 the other author also presents a defense of the Apparition. See Brading Mexican Phoenix for a complete discussion of these works. The Guridi book according to Medina has a frontis. portrait of the Virgin by de Oca which is not present in this copy. 1850AMO-35492 très jolis dessins originaux exécutés vers 1844-1850 par un certain Pélisson (à identifier). Peintre spécialisé dans les marines et notamment dans les vues de bateaux (voiliers 3 mats) pris dans la tempête. Format 33 x 26,5 cm. Sur papier Pellée (voir note en fin de notice). L'un des deux dessins est contrecollé sur son carton d'origine. A encadrer. Technique : mine de plomb et rehauts de blanc. Grande finesse et précision du trait. Main d'artiste. François Pellée a inventé un papier spécial (voir photo) qui servait à rendre très finement les dessins et lithographies. (Papier à dessin dont la propriété serait d'obtenir des effets en clair sans gouacher, 1844.) En juin 1844, il est à Nantes et renonce à sa demande car il s'est entendu avec l'imprimeur Montagne. Ce papier a été commercialisé dès cette époque par une certaine Mme Potin à Nantes. Superbe.
