This set is a taxonomical work revealing the surprisingly abundant number of species of orchids that may be found on the relatively small island of Taiwan. A total of 271 species are introduced and arranged alphabetically for ease of reference. Line drawings colour photos and some illustrations of dissected flowers as well as some historic 1935 watercolours have been incorporated. Under each species taxonomic disposition geographic distribution flowering time and ecological information is provided. Of particular note is that 11 species in 7 genera are described in this set for the first time. Originally planned as a four volume set only three were ever published.
