All placed in original folder printed in red and black, large Nazi emblem of eagle and swastika on cover, edges bit thumbed; signs of use and age, a plate or two bit spotted, one with vague horizontal fold mark, some finger soiling here and there. In a very good condition. ~ First edition. Very rare complete set of all the plates both in German and Dutch. Aimed to familiarize the Dutch people, in particular the youth, with the military dress and accoutrement of the Wehrmacht and to create respect "for those who wear these uniforms, who give their well-being and blood for the freedom of Europe".

[ADDED:] This particular copy comes from the bequest of renowned uniform historian and researcher Dr. Pieter Roelse and includes, loosely inserted, a large number of newspaper and magazine photographs related to the book's subject. The clippings are often additionally captioned in neat hand, and source and date are often given. Some period material is included. The clippings often correspond directly to illustrations in the book and enhance image and word, providing extra, useful reference. It should be noted that this material, the result of a lifelong research, study, and collection is provided herewith strictly as-is, subject to what is physically present in the book.

Original single-sheet chromolithograph of exceptionally fine quality. Overall size 24 x 16.5 cm, printed on heavy paper. Bearing at foot the legend "Geneeskundige Dienst". Fine. - - Beautiful and exquisitely produced chromolithographic plate from a highly acclaimed work. It depicts two officers of the Royal Army Medical Corps, one mounted. The scenery is an open field, with cavalry just very vaguely visible in the far distance. A lovely plate with rich, dense colours and excellent gloss, beautifully heightened in gold. An authoritative manual on chromolithography in 1885 (Colour and Colour Printing, by W. D. Richmond) asserts the need for at least nine separate stones to achieve such richness, but in fact the number of stones used was often more than twenty. The plate is in its original state; one margin is yet untrimmed, with the original stab-holes. First and only edition of Brunings' hallmark series of Dutch military uniforms of the 2nd half of the 19th century. (Lipperheide 2260; Colas 464).
