Mollo and Taylor's standard reference was originally published in seven volumes between 1963 and 1976. The first six volumes have been individually updated and re-issued; the scarce seventh volume has not been reprinted to date. The six volumes included here comprise: 1. Allgemeine-SS 1923-1945 (Mollo; fourth edition, 1991); 2. Germanische-SS 1940-1945 (Taylor, third edition, 1991); 3. SS-Verfugungstruppe 1933-1939 (Mollo & Taylor, third edition, 1991); 4. A suite of 14 original copperplate etchings, on 7 single sheets, for "La France Militaire". Overall size ca. 270 x 180 mm. With two impressions on each print, measuring ca. 90 x 110 mm each. Good impressions with ample margins all-round. In overall good condition (margins soiled & foxed to various degrees, slightly affecting 2-3 images). - - First edition. Martinet and Lacouchie, along others, are signed on the metal, succeeded by "del." implying this is the artist from whose drawing the engraving or etching was made. Lacouchie cut himself the metal, and his signature, as well as those of other craftsmen, is succeeded by "sculp." meaning "carved". The prints, involving both etching and engraving, depict a beautiful array of military and civilian uniforms and costumes, very finely executed. An impressive visual representation of the military and civilian human landscape of the Premier Empire (1805-1815). Preserved in acid-free, pH-balanced Renaissance archival paper. Scarce. ADDED: 4 similar prints, each depicts a costume study and a landscape view (2 prints foxed.)

Represented are Grenadiers à pied; Géneral et Chevau léger Bavarois; Hussards volontaires, Gendarmerie Nationale; and Russian Grenadiers, Dragons, Fusiliers, and Carabiniers. Furthermore included views of military life and at least one battle scene. The accompanying general views of places and sites are all identified by name and location. An impressive visual representation of the military and landscapes of the Premier Empire (1805-1815). Preserved in acid-free, pH-balanced Renaissance archival paper. Scarce.

There exists some certain unclarity regarding the author's first name, with some sources claim it to be "Fraugott" (see for example Henning & Herfurth: "Orden und Ehrenzeichen: Handbuch der Phaleristik"); while others (WorldCat) insist on "Traugott". ~ Provenance: From the library of C. P. Mulder, renowned collector and international heraldry authority, with his charming armorial bookplate,"Nil Desperandum", to first free endpaper.
