Complete series of 25 colour cigarette cards. Each is captioned, numbered, and with extended explanatory text on verso. Placed in pockets in 3 clear plastic sheets. In a very good condition. ~ First edition of this rare series. One of the earliest Player's card series, (ca. 1910). The beautifull cards were printed in chromolithography, a process which yielded a much more delicate result than later, mechanical processes. Complete series of this work, comprising of unused, unglued cards which are preserved entirely in the original state, are very scarce.

In about fine condition. ~ First edition, using unpublished divisional title-pages from 1857 and 1861, respectively. Very rare. Splendid plates with rich, dense colours and excellent gloss, beautifully finished by hand. An authoritative manual on chromolithography in 1885 (Colour and Colour Printing, by W. D. Richmond) asserts the need for at least nine separate stones to achieve such richness, but in fact the number of stones used was often more than twenty. ~ Provenance: From the library of C. P.
