Single-sheet chromolithographic print. With 49 numbered illustrations of military uniforms in 6 groups. Captioned at head on the stone. In a very good condition. ~ Extract from Meyers Konversations-Lexikon. Signed by Richard Knötel on the stone. Beautifully illustrated military uniforms of various armies and forces. With dense colours and excellent gloss. An authoritative manual on chromolithography in 1885 (Colour and Colour Printing, by W. D. Richmond) asserts the need for at least 9 separate stones to achieve such richness, but in fact the number of stones used was often more than 20. The print measures 24.5x31 cm overall size and 20x26.5 cm image size and is most suitable for framing.
