Description: "CharlElie Couture is a French singer composer painter writer and photographer. This book is dedicated to his work as an artist. He became famous in 1981 with the huge success of his album Poèmes Rocks and his hit song "Comme un avion sans ailes" Like a plane without wings. Pleased with his success as a singer but disappointed not to have made his break as an artist he left for the US in 2004 to experience full freedom as an artist and photographer. He regularly exhibits his work in both Paris and New York. He sees this move to New York as the starting point of a full remodeling of his work as an artist. It is there that he found the core of what his work is about. This is why his photography of New York both incarnates and gives off energy be it in abandoned lots or construction zones. He creates his images using digital photo reconstruction - like scenes from everyday life seen through a kaleidoscope. CharlElie is a graduate of the École des Beaux-Arts with a highly refined sense of composition and a particular taste for mise en scène. He draws on these strenghts to juxtapose and reinterpret the random elements he encounters in his wanderings in and around Manhattan. His images capture the essence of light. They pulsate with electrifying colors that resound like the thrusting syncopated rhythms of New York - a city filled with excitement and open to art and creativity of every kind." -- with a bonus offer-- . 1960200731960. Fashion Photography Fashion runway and editorial photography of major European couture labels during the postwar expansion of high fashion culture. Produced between the 1950s and 1980s the photographs preserve the work of such fashion giants as Hubert de Givenchy Christian Dior Yves Saint Laurent Karl Lagerfeld and Pierre Balmain as they shaped luxury fashion in the decades following the Second World War. The images capture garments worn by prominent fashion models including Jean Shrimpton and Jerry Hall as well as appearances by Hollywood actor Lauren Bacall. Together the photographs document editorial spreads and runway reporting that connected Paris fashion houses to international media audiences during the rise of the modern fashion industry.

Silver gelatin photo archive consisting of 25 photographs produced for runway coverage editorial publication and press distribution between the 1950s and 1980s. Several photographs retain original press or editorial text clippings affixed to the verso describing the garments or runway presentations. Designers represented include Chanel Givenchy Dior Balmain Yves Saint Laurent Hermès Jean Patou Ungaro and Isaac Mizrahi. Notable images include two Chanel runway press photographs from the Chanel collections of the early and mid-1980s under the direction of Karl Lagerfeld illustrating shifts in silhouette and styling within the decade: one depicts Jerry Hall modeling a tweed and plaid skirt suit with two-tone heels and chain belt from the Spring Summer 1981 ready-to-wear collection while another image from a 1985 show features models wearing structured tweed jackets pearl earrings and pronounced shoulder pads characteristic of mid-1980s fashion. A 1966 Dior editorial photograph presents a safari-inspired blouse and skirt ensemble titled "Escale" while another Dior image shows Jean Shrimpton modeling a bold checked wool skirt suit with statement hat in 1965. Additional photographs include an early 1954 Givenchy editorial featuring actor Leslie Caron in a pleated black wool afternoon dress shortly after the founding of the Givenchy house in 1952 as well as images of eveningwear and tailored suits by Balmain and Yves Saint Laurent.

This archive documents the evolution of couture design from the refined tailoring and structured femininity associated with mid-century Paris fashion to the sharper silhouettes and theatrical presentation of the 1980s runway. The presence of early Givenchy imagery from the 1950s alongside Chanel runway photography from the Karl Lagerfeld era illustrate the shifting aesthetics of couture and the persistence of timeless fashion standbys like tweed fabric wool tailoring and draped eveningwear. Twenty-five silver gelatin photographs measuring between approximately 5 × 7 inches and 8 × 11.5 inches. Several versos retain pasted press text or editorial descriptions. Light handling marks consistent with press photograph use; occasional adhesive residue on versos from clipped captions. Overall very good condition. An informative visual record of mid-to-late twentieth century couture. unknown
