Eugene "Gene" DeMontreville played professional baseball from 1894-1904 at second base and shortstop playing on 8 different teams in his 11-year career. DeMontreville was a former teammate of Hall of Famers Kid Nichols Billy Hamilton and Vic Willis for the 1901-1902 Boston Beaneaters later Boston Braves and Connie Mack for the 1894 Pittsburgh Pirates. He also played on the 1900 National League Champion Brooklyn Superbas later Brooklyn Dodgers. His 36-game hitting streak for the Washington Senators from 1896-1897 ranks as the 10th longest in Major League Baseball history. A Ball Player's Career is considered the first baseball biography ever published in book form where Anson recounts his professional baseball career and international goodwill tours. Anson led Chicago to six National League pennants in the 1880's and still holds several Cubs franchise records while being the only Cub in the 3000-hit club. This memoir recounts the activities of the Merchant Navy during the First World War and was written by one of its most experienced captains. This volume was a collaboration between David Bone 1874-1959 and his brother Muirhead 1876-1953. Muirhead was an etcher and watercolourist who was appointed as the first official war artist in 1916. "He was among the greatest British draughtsmen and his images of cities particularly buildings being built or demolished display extraordinary technical skill" ODNB. This limited edition contains a signed etching by Muirhead titled Salvage Men Approaching a Torpedoed Ship. "Written largely between the shipping crisis of 1917 and the surrender of German undersea arms at Harwich on November 20 1918 this book is an effort to record a seaman's impressions of the trial through which the Merchants' Service has come in the war" p. xi. David Bone 1874-1959 first joined the Merchant Navy at age 15 in 1889. He served during the Boer War captained many ships including the 17000-ton liner Transylvania and fought in both world wars. He told a reporter in 1943 that he had served in so many convoys even he could not remember the total. He also was a celebrated writer releasing his first novel The Brassbounder in 1910. Quarto. CCPB000223847-0<br /><br /><br /><br />Luis Basols y Bastons en religión fray Luis de Olod o de Olot Olot 1720-8 de mayo de 1794 fue un fraile capuchino y calÃgrafo español.<br /><br />Hijo de un tintorero fue bautizado en la parroquia de San Esteban de Olot el 1 de febrero de 1720.1​ En abril de 1735 tomó el hábito capuchino con el nombre de Luis de Olod.2​ TenÃa un hermano de nombre Francisco Basols y Bastons que corrió con la financiación de la dos ediciones de su Tratado del origen y arte de escribir bien en el que también aparecen en los preliminares un ValentÃn de Olod predicador en el convento de capuchinos de Barcelona firmante de una de las aprobaciones y Esteban de Olod provincial de la Orden en Cataluña y quien otorga la licencia para su impresión que Cotarelo creyó que podrÃa tratarse de otro hermano o de un pariente.3​ Según se desprende de los datos biográficos que él mismo facilitó en su obra y por los lugares donde van fechadas las láminas se sabe que en 1760 y 1761 residÃa en el convento de capuchinos de Figueras del que pasó al de Gerona y más adelante al de Barcelona en el que se encontraba al salir la primera edición de su libro en 1766 desempeñando el cargo de bibliotecario.<br /><br />Para abrir los grabados de las láminas quejándose de la escasez de grabadores en España y recordando que José de Casanova reprochó a los grabadores haber deslucido las suyas recurrió al italiano Giovanni Petroschi 1715-1766 de quien tenÃa buenas referencias y le envÃo veinte muestras de las veinticinco que finalmente salieron publicadas pero tampoco quedó satisfecho con el resultado pues se las devolvió decÃa "tan desfiguradas imperfectas y ajenas del original que á no conocerlas por la materia las desconociera en la forma".
