1974144737New York: The Red Umbrella 1974. Three legal-size sheets crudely dittoed on one side stapled together at upper left; very good but slight misprinting of the first sheet puts the top half of the title line off the edge. Not found in OCLC which lists only one holding of ephemera from this organization. Statement of minimal criteria for membership in the Red Umbrella radical network. Extensive analogy is drawn with a "deer in the dappled woods." Political contexts range from "sun-lit areas" to "deep shadow" and the responsibilities of member groups and individuals are defined for these various contexts. Could perhaps be irreverently defined as the Bambi theory of activism. The Red Umbrella unknown books

1989009775Arts Umbrella. A unique item. Offered is an original typed and signed one-page letter from Carol Jackson Chairman and Carol Henriquez Executive Director of Arts Umbrella out of Vancouver British Columbia Canada lacking the original envelope and attachments. Requesting an art donation from Mr. Hockney for their upcoming auction the letter reads in part: "Dear David: Arts Umbrella Vancouver's visual and performing art centre is now entering its second decade but we can not do it alone. We need your help. Each year Arts Umbrella hosts at its Granville Island centre a gala art auction dinner and dance entitled "Splash" - We would be very honoured if you would support Splash. Donations of art pieces by generous artists like yourself ensure the success of Arts Umbrella's most important fundraiser - The medium is boxes which will be stretched canvasses on wooden frames available in a choice of three forms and sizes supplied to you by Arts Umbrella - We rely strongly on community support to enable us to supply bursaries for families unable to pay as well as for free workshops for the artistically gifted and programs for east end and inner city schools hospitals and special needs programs." Brown coffee stain to upper right area and lower right area of letter not affecting the text or signatures; previously folded once for mailing purposes. . Very Good. Paper Ephemera. 1st Edition. 1989. Arts Umbrella unknown
19105960no place given - likely Boston: Manning's Folding Umbrella 1910. First Edition . Folded sheet. Very good. Folded sheet measuring 3.5" x 6.25" folded and 14" x 6.25" unfolded. In very good condition a bit dust-soiled on the front wrap else clean and bright. Fantastic image-driven promotional pamphlet for "Manning's Folding Umbrella" noting a patent date of October 26 1909. The rear side of this folding brochure contains four panels with large photographic illustrations of the process of folding the umbrella including detailed text description. The folding umbrella is a bit more complex than the modern concept. We locate no copies of this pamphlet in OCLC but found an example of the umbrella itself including the original pouch as seen here! at the New Hampshire Historical Society. A rare and amusing document emerging from a driven New England inventor whose product likely never really took off. Manning's Folding Umbrella unknown
