After the Armistice he went to Paris where he made a living writing articles on music and sports short stories and novels. Later Jacques Copeau introduced him to theatre after which he wrote only dramas mostly produced by his associated company Compagnie des Quinze. In 1946 Benjamin Britten adapted his The Rape of Lucretia for an operetta later also composed by Ottorino Respighi.
