The first three volumes of the memoirs of the Royal Society of Northern Antiquaries at Copenhagen founded in 1825 and devoted to the study of the ancient history and literature of the Scandinavian countries. One of the founders and the driving force behind the Society was Danish archaeologist Carl Christian Rafn 1795-1864 whose Antiquitates Americanae published by the Society in 1837 was the major pioneering work on the pre-Columbian discovery of America by Northmen.
