The book is based on an exhibition assembled by the Denver Art Museum along with a lecture series by Melville J. Herskovits of Northwestern University. The text was adapted from the museum's labels by Muriel S. Wolle. Plates were made by members of the museum staff and by studens of the Denver Public Schools.
