Octavo cloth hardcover gilt spine label map illus. endpapers 318 pp. Near-Fine with light rubbing; in a Good mylar protected dust jacket with edgewear that includes chipping. From dust jacket: Charles Cannibal Miller as a child was what is generally termed a “regular boy†but instead of having merely a house or streets to tear around in he had a whiole jungle for his stamping grounds. Charlie was born in far off Samarang Java but his father who was a captain in the Dutch East Indian Army was ordered to Dutch New Guinea to stamp out head hunting and took his wife and child along with him. There was no school so Charlie’s mother taught him until he reached high school age when he was shipped off to Holland for a higher education. He finished high school and took up engineering but the boy to whom the green depths of the jungle had beckoned as a toddler continued to dream of the wilds of his youth. He contented himself for a few years not with engineering but with racing motor cycles bots and automotbiles aviation five years of war barn-storming flying and other unusual jobs in Australia. He father had given him his first camera when he was six and right along he had continued with photography. America becked and he went to Los Angeles where he became a motion picture camera man. In between jobs he had returned to Dutch New Guinea to see his father at which time he learned the jungle thoroughly recording it in pictures. While in Los Angeles he learned that Miss Leona Jay a society girl who craved adventure was organizing an expedition into Dutch New Guinea. Charlie came East to lead it fell in love with his charming backer and married her in Java. l Lee Furman, Inc., 1939. hardcover books
