"Starting in the 1950s or before Bendix Pacific designed tested and manufactured hydraulic components and systems primarily for the military. In the same facility avionics and other electronic hardware was designed manufactured and documented in technical manuals. Much of this operation was relocated to a new facility in Sylmar CA where they had a large deep indoor pool for testing sonar. Telemetry components for the RIM-8 Talos surface-to-air missile included transmitters and oscillators in various frequency bands; the missile itself was designed and built by Bendix. They built and installed the telemetry system in all the ground stations for the first crewed space flights. For this program they developed the first cardio tachometer and respiration rate monitor system so that a ground-based physician could observe an astronaut's vital signs. MK46 torpedo electronics also came from this facility. Other diverse products included radar detectors in aircraft that identified ground missile tracking and ground missile launch at the aircraft. In the 1960s they produced an anti-lock brake system for military aircraft using established technology similar to Dunlop's earlier Maxaret. The technology is similar to the notched wheel and reluctor now used in cars. " from Wikipe . Scintilla Magneto Division unknown
200578374Science Applications International Corporation 2005. Presumed First Edition First printing. Spiral bound. Very good. Various paginations approximately 50 pages. SAIC performed a content analysis of the Office of Defense Programs Fiscal Year 2005 through 2010 Program and Implementation Plans to identify interfaces and/or potential interfaces with the Readiness Campaign Program and Implementation Plans and related projects. One of NNSA's core missions is to ensure the United States maintains a safe secure and reliable nuclear stockpile through the application of unparalleled science technology engineering and manufacturing. The Office of Defense Programs carries out NNSA's mission to maintain and modernize the nuclear stockpile through the Stockpile Stewardship and Management Program. Details about nuclear weapons deterrence and NNSA's management of the stockpile can be found in the Nuclear Matters Handbook and the current Stockpile Stewardship and Management Plan. NNSA's nuclear security enterprise is composed of a nationwide network of government-owned contractor-operated national security laboratories and nuclear weapons production facilities. These facilities provide the necessary research development testing and production capabilities needed to carry out stockpile stewardship. Science Applications International Corporation unknown
200775763Science Applications International Corporation 2007. Presumed First printing thus. Velobound. Very good. viii 78 pages. Footnotes. Figures. Tables. Some with color. With transmittal letter laid in. This was prepared for the U.S. Department of Energy National Nuclear Security Administration Defense Programs Office of Transformation. SAIC was tasked to prepare an independent assessment of the business case for moving non-nuclear production from the Kansas City Plant to an alternate city for comparison with alternatives presented in the Kansas City Responsive Infrastructure Manufacturing and Sourcing KCRIMS Facility Acquisition Report and identified in the GSA/NNSA Environmental Assessment Notice of Intent. SAIC concluded that moving nonnuclear production outside the Kansas City metropolitan area did not present a competitive business case for NNSA. The KCRIMS facility was opened in 2015 and renamed the Kansas City National Security Campus. A business case captures the reasoning for initiating a project or task. It is often presented in a well-structured written document. The logic of the business case is that whenever resources such as money or effort are consumed they should be in support of a specific business need. A compelling business case adequately captures both the quantifiable and non-quantifiable characteristics of a proposed project. Business cases can range from comprehensive and highly structured as required by formal project management methodologies to informal and brief. Information included in a formal business case could be the background of the project the expected business benefits the options considered with reasons for rejecting or carrying forward each option the expected costs of the project a gap analysis and the expected risks. Consideration should also be given to the option of doing nothing including the costs and risks of inactivity. From this information the justification for the project is derived. 198677473Arlington VA: Science Applications International Corporation 1986. DTIC reprint. Wraps. Good. 114 pages per DOD Form 1473. Figures. Tables. Bibliography. Acronyms. Ink notation on front cover report title. The distribution limitations stated on the title page are believed to no longer be effective due to the passage of time and advances in technology. This study used a staged approach. The analysis steps included Characterization of sites threats and existing physical security systems; Functional analysis of security system requirements including task definition; and Concept development and evaluation of equipment modules functional subsystems and security system elements; and System definition of robotic elements of a physical security system including concept refinement. Referenced appendices are NOT included in this document. This paper develops specific recommendations and concepts for the implementation of robotics systems to fulfill specifically identified nuclear weapon physical security tasks. These automated systems are designed to offer a more efficient cost-effective alternative to existing systems and to reduce the amount of manpower required to provide site security. In this respect the most promising concepts for development appear to be a fixed weapon and sensor platform and an upgraded human-drived mobile platform. All concepts incorporate a modular design which provides flexibility and adaptability and allows for future systems growth. Recommended weapons are for lethal applications the turret-mounted M134 Minigun 7.62mm and the M129 Grenade launcher 44mm for non-lethal operations. Sensors were broken down into two groups: detection and assessment/response. Recommended detection sensors are comprised of a microwave motion detector and a video motion detector. A combination of closed circuit television camera and thermal imager is suggested as the optimal sensing mechanism for assessment and response.
