Gebonden onder geillustreerde kartonomslag, gedecoreerde schutbladen, frontispice in kleur, 165 x 245mm., 128pp., prachtige en zeer uitgebreide kleurillustratie. Na de zestiende eeuw ??“ waarin de wereld werd ontdekt en de handelsroutes over zee ontstonden ??“ vonden zilveren objecten gemaakt in de fijne filigreintechniek hun weg naar het westen. Europese vorsten als Lodewijk XIV, Frederik Wilhelm van Brandenburg en Amalia van Solms toonden hun verzameling in speciale kabinetten. Bijna alle verzamelingen zijn echter verloren gegaan, verspreid geraakt of omgesmolten. De enige collectie die bewaard bleef, is de collectie van de tsaren. Naar de grote verzameling die Peter de Grote en Catharina de Grote hebben aangelegd, is recent nieuw onderzoek verricht. Het boek bij de tentoonstelling Het zilveren wonder uit het oosten gaat in op de herkomst van de objecten uit China, India en Batavia, de handelsroutes naar het westen, de eigenaren van de rijke collecties en de techniek van het zilverwerk. Het grootste wonder dat wordt beschreven is de 32-delige toiletset die Catharina II als huwelijksgeschenk kreeg. Oude geheimen herontdekt in de rijke verzamelingen van het Staatsmuseum de Hermitage in Sint-Petersburg! Boek is nieuw.

This is a very good hardcover copy in green polished boards with gilt titles to the front cover and spine. Very clean inside, just a bit of oxidizing to the front half-title page and rear endpapers, and a touch of stain to the bottom corner of the last few pages. Fine study on the various kinds of English decorated trays produced between 1550 and 1850. Sections on each type (gold, silver-gilt, silver, Sheffield Plate, Japanned, papier-mache, pottery and porcelain, wood and parquetry, and Turnbridge Ware trays). 455 illustrations including 6 in color. Large folio, 12.5" high X 10" wide, 213 pages. This book will be securely wrapped and packed in a sturdy box and shipped with tracking.
