C0713<strong>Walter Philip Nicolson had been closely involved for over thirteen years with the 39-year-old Helene Françoise Leentje Carpenter living together outside marriage while he repeatedly postponed wedlock. In 1772 her mother successfully petitioned to have Leentje confined at home for three months to end the relationship and although Nicolson protested the Council of Brabant offered him only one solution immediate marriage which he refused as dishonourable.</strong>NL Walter Philip Nicolson was al ruim 13 jaar bevriend met de 39 jarige Helene Francoise Leentje Carpenter. Ze leefden 'buyten huwelyk als galant en maitresse' aldus de moeder en Nicolson leek het huwelijk steeds uit te stellen. In december 1772 verzocht moeder Renetta Clara Thierry weduwe van Walter Carpenter de Westerbeek in leven raed en rentmeester generaal der domeinen van Brabant wonende in Breda om opsluiting van haar dochter zodat de relatie zou eindigen. Zij kreeg toestemming de dochter voor drie maanden bij haar thuis in te sluiten zij had twee jaar verbeterhuis gevraagd. Mede ondertekenaars van het verzoek waren drie oudere dochters Carpenter: Jeanne Wilhelmine en Netje en moeders broer Guilliam Thierry luitenant generaal. Nicolson protesteert vertelt uitvoerig hoe slecht het gezin voor zijn Leentje zorgt vaak ziek Duitse minnaar etc. Maar de Raad en Leenhove van Brabant geeft Nicolson alleen gelegenheid direct te trouwen. Dat weigert hij omdat dat oneervol zou zijn. unknown
